HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — The Miami University volleyball team (8-3) dropped to Northern Kentucky (5-6) in three sets on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

A pair of kills from Chelsea Williams, a solo block from Raegan Lantz and a kill from Lauren Coyne kept Miami in the fight at 5-4 at the start of the first set. The Norse responded with a scoring burst that led to them jumping ahead 15-6. Williams continued to flash on offense after putting down three more kills to get the RedHawks back into the fight, Rachel Morgan added a service ace and Lantz had a solo block to come within two points at 17-15. Northern Kentucky went on to finish out the set with a 25-17 first-set win.
A couple of Coyne kills and a Lantz service ace gave Miami a 6-5 advantage in the beginning of the second set. The Norse answered by taking a 12-9 lead before a Coyne and Molly Creech kill kept things close at 13-12. Trailing 23-18, two kills from Creech, a kill from Kendall Bosse and a block from the two of them helped Miami go on top 25-24. Northern Kentucky scored the final three points of the set to earn a 27-25 win.
Despite a Lantz kill and a Lydia Michelin solo block in the opening of the third set, Northern Kentucky was able to take an 8-3 lead. A combination of kills from the Red and White made it 11-8, as the home team held on to a three-point lead. The Norse grew their lead to 19-11 and eventually ended the set at 25-17.

NOTES:

Coyne and Williams led the RedHawks with 10 kills each.
Holland Van Deusen recorded the most assists of her career (32) and had the most digs (18) for the Red and White.

The Red and White begin conference play on the road Sept. 24-25 at Bowling Green. The first match will be played on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m., and then the next match will take place on Friday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m.
