RedHawks Prepare for a Pair of Matches Against NKU

THIS WEEKEND: The Red and White begin this weekend's action at home by hosting Northern Kentucky on Friday, Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. The RedHawks follow this up by heading down to Northern Kentucky the next day for an afternoon match on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m.
ABOUT NORTHERN KENTUCKY: In the 2025 season, Northern Kentucky went 22-9 and 17-1 in the Horizon League. The Norse are currently 3-6 after most recently going 2-1 at the Steve Baumrind Invitational against Duquesne (W, 3-2), Notre Dame (W, 3-1) and the College of Charleston (L, 3-1). Coming off of a regular-season championship, Northern Kentucky was ranked second overall in the Horizon League Preseason Poll.Â
The Red and White are 9-9 when facing off with the Norse. Last season, Miami split a pair of matches with Northern Kentucky as the Norse secured a 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-23, 26-24) at Millett Hall, and the RedHawks claimed a 3-2 win (26-24, 17-25, 25-15, 23-25, 15-12) the following day at Regents Hall.
TELEVISION: Friday night's home match versus Northern Kentucky will be available to watch on ESPN+.
UP NEXT: The Red and White begin conference play on the road Sept. 24-25 at Bowling Green. The first match will be played on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m., and then the next match will take place on Friday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m.
STRONG START: The RedHawks have reached 8-1 on the season (best start to a season since 2013) after winning their last seven matches. This win streak is the longest since Miami recorded nine consecutive wins in the 2019 season. A win over Northern Kentucky this weekend would give Miami its best start to a season since 1979.
MAC SETTER PAIR OF THE WEEK: Miami University volleyball freshman setter Holland Van Deusen and freshman setter Madison Brown were named the Mid-American Conference Setter Pair of the Week following their performances last week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. Van Deusen and Brown combined for 99 assists (5.5 assists/set), helping Miami to 126 kills (14.00 kills/set) with a .366 hitting percentage over three wins at the ISTAP Collegiate Cup against Nicholls, Alabama State and South Carolina State. Van Deusen tallied 60 assists (6.67/set), 19 digs (2.11/set), three service aces (0.33/set) and three kills (0.33). Brown added 39 assists (4.33/set), 18 digs (2.00/set) and four service aces (0.44/set). This is the first MAC weekly award for the RedHawks this season.
ISTAP COLLEGIATE CUP: The RedHawks went 3-0 at the ISTAP Collegiate Cup last weekend to earn their third straight tournament championship, beating Nicholls, Alabama State (tournament host) and South Carolina State. The RedHawks did not lose a single set over the weekend, and for the third consecutive week, they held an opponent under 10 points in a set, as Miami downed Nicholls 25-9 in the third set of Friday's match.Â
Lauren Coyne recorded 3.00 kills per set while maintaining a .442 hitting percentage. In total, the sophomore had 27 kills, eight blocks, two digs and one assist. Grace Kreutz totaled 37 digs (4.11 digs/set) and went 38-for-39 (.974) in serve receive at the ISTAP Collegiate Cup. Kreutz also added 10 kills (.321 hit percentage out of the back row) and 10 service aces (six in one match versus South Carolina State).Â
