OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (8-2) fell to Northern Kentucky (4-6) in three sets on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Norse opened the first set with a 4-2 advantage before a pair of kills from Molly Creech and a solo block from Sydney Waller helped the RedHawks overtake Northern Kentucky 6-5. The Norse went on to reclaim a 12-9 lead when Chelsea Williams put down back-to-back kills to trail by just one point. Trailing 21-15, the RedHawks gained momentum after some back-and-forth action that led to a Miami block thanks to Raegan Lantz and Waller. Williams and Creech went on to each hit a kill, forcing a Northern Kentucky timeout at 21-18. Despite the strong push, the Red and White fell 25-20 in the first set.
The Norse built off of the first set, as they claimed an early 4-1 lead in the second set. Two errors from Northern Kentucky and a Creech kill brought Miami back in the fight, as the RedHawks trailed by just one at 5-4. The visitors looked to pull away once again, but three attack errors kept Miami in the fight at 10-7. Northern Kentucky went on to find its rhythm, claiming a 25-12 second-set win.
The RedHawks grabbed an early 6-5 lead at the start of the third set from a solo block by Lauren Coyne and two kills from Lantz. Shortly after, Holland Van Deusen served an ace to put the score at 9-7 and force a Norse timeout. Williams smashed two kills to help the Red and White hold on to a 16-14 lead with the end of the set approaching. Northern Kentucky responded with four points of their own to overtake Miami 18-16. Kills from Coyne, Creech and Kreutz kept things close at 22-21, but the RedHawks ultimately dropped 25-21 in the third set.
