CLEVELAND— The Mid-American Conference announced its men's golf All-MAC teams today, and two RedHawks were recognized. Liam Nelson received First-Team honors, while Brett Podobinski was named to the Second Team.
Nelson, a sophomore from Chicago, Ill., capped one of the finest individual seasons in recent Miami golf history. He claimed the MAC Individual Championship — a feat no RedHawk golfer had achieved since 2003 — and was named to the MAC All-Tournament Team as Miami swept both the team and individual titles in the same year for the first time since 1996. Nelson finished the three-round championship at four over par, clinching the individual title by a single stroke. It was his third win of the season. His first came at the Dayton Flyer Invitational in October, where he topped an 82-player field with a score of 206 (66-70-70), finishing as one of only five players under par. He made six consecutive birdies in his opening round and rallied from a three-stroke deficit on the final day to win medalist honors. Nelson's second victory came at the Muirfield Shootout in April, where he finished as co-medalist in an 81-player field with a three-under-par score of 141. Nelson was named MAC Golfer of the Week twice during the 2025-26 season.
Podobinski, a senior from Dublin, Ohio, earned Second-Team All-MAC honors for the third consecutive season. His season included a standout performance at the Gopher Invitational, where he led the team with a score of 210, three below par, finishing tied for fifth in an 84-player field. He also posted a top-20 finish at the season-opening Island Resort Intercollegiate, going four under par through the first two rounds. The senior served as a steady anchor for a RedHawk squad that won its first MAC team title since 2015 and earned the program's first NCAA Regional berth since 2015.
