MASON, Ohio – The RedHawks fell just short of the Cincinnati Bearcats in the Joe Nuxhall Classic Wednesday, losing 8-7 after a scoreless ninth inning. Ryan Novak led the RedHawks in RBIs with three, including a two-run homer in the fifth. Miami falls to 20-11 (10-5 MAC) with the loss, while Cincinnati moves to 22-13 (10-5 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cincinnati brought three across in the top of the first with a two-RBI triple and a sac fly.
- Miami matched UC's production with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Evan Appelwick walked and Tommy Harrison hit an infield single, setting up Novak for an RBI single. Matthew Buffington delivered a two-RBI single to make it 3-3. The RedHawks left three more runners on base to close out the inning.
- Jack Geiser recorded three straight outs in the second to hold off the Bearcats.
- UC scored two more runs in the third inning on three hits to take a 5-3 lead.
- Novak tied the ballgame in the bottom of the fifth, scoring himself and Harrison, who had been hit by a pitch, with a two-run homer down the right-field line.
- Still with no outs in the fifth, Ignacio Gonzalez fired a base hit to center field. He advanced to third base on two groundouts and scored as Dominic Krupinski singled to center field to give Miami their first lead at 6-5.
- Cincinnati scored two runs in the seventh after putting up two hits and capitalizing on a Miami error. This made it a 7-6 advantage for the Bearcats.
- The RedHawks tied the game again in the bottom of the seventh. Gonzalez and Carson Raether hit back-to-back singles with two outs, and Krupinski recorded the RBI double that made it 7-7.
- The Bearcats claimed the lead again in the eighth, scoring off two walks and a double.
- Austin Berggren pitched two strikeouts and a groundout in the top of the ninth to keep Miami alive heading to the bottom of the ninth. The RedHawks put one runner on base, but were unable to score, finishing out an 8-7 loss.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Novak went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs.
- Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with two runs.
- Buffington went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run.
- Krupinski went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
- Marc Iozzo pitched 1.2 hitless innings.
