RedHawks Lose 7-6 After Ninth-Inning Rally Falls Short

OXFORD, Ohio – The RedHawks dropped a 7-6 decision to Ohio Friday after giving up four runs to the Bobcats in the first inning. Jamie Rasmussen hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, going 2-for-2 in Miami's attempted rally. Miami falls to 20-12 (10-6 MAC) with the loss, while Ohio improves to 7-26 (4-12 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Ohio took a commanding 4-0 lead in the top of the first on two hits, including a two-run homer.
Miami made it a 4-2 game in the second inning, scoring two runs on three hits. Ryan Novak led off with a solo homer to right field to score the first run. Ignacio Gonzalez and Carson Raether each singled and a sac fly by Christopher Roa scored the RedHawks' second run.
Marcus Dierks hit a stand-up triple in the third and scored on a groundout to make it a 4-3 game.
The Bobcats brought one run across in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to stretch the lead back to four runs at 7-3.
The RedHawks loaded the bases in the eighth with a single by Rasmussen, a double by Jake Vrlak and a walk by Evan Appelwick. Tommy Harrison recorded an RBI groundout to make the score 7-4.
Matthew Buffington led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk and Rasmussen recorded his second hit of the day, a two-run blast to center field to pull Miami within one run. The RedHawks were unable to complete the comeback, solidifying a 7-6 loss.

MIAMI GAME NOTES:

Vrlak went 1-for-1.
Rasmussen went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs.

The RedHawks will look to tie the series against the Bobcats tomorrow in game two of the three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
