Miami Overpowers Michigan 12-10 in Historic Day at McKie

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The RedHawks surrendered three early runs in the first inning after letting up four hits and an error.
- Miami turned a double play in the top of the second to hold the deficit at three runs.
- In the bottom of the second, the RedHawks tied the ballgame. Carson Raether, Christopher Roa and Diego Cruz led off with three consecutive home runs, bringing the crowd to its feet and tying the game at 3-3. This marked the first time the Red and White have hit three consecutive home runs.
- Raether walked with two outs in the bottom of the third. Designated hitter Roa doubled to the right-field corner, putting Raether on third and setting up Cruz for a two-run double to right that made it a 5-3 game.
- A triple and a single brought Michigan back within one run in the fourth inning, 5-4. The RedHawks turned a 1-4 double play to get out of the inning.
- Miami put up a four-spot in the fourth inning. Dominic Krupinski was hit by a pitch, and Marcus Dierks hit a bunt single. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Tommy Harrison sent Krupinski home with an RBI. Ignacio Gonzalez cleared the bases with a three-run swing to left field, putting the RedHawks ahead 9-4.
- The Wolverines pulled back within one run in the sixth, as they added a pair of two-run homers.
- In the bottom of the inning, Miami answered with two runs. Harrison led off with a single, and Raether took an HBP. Roa singled to drive in one run, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Krupinski came up with an infield single to make it an 11-8 contest.
- Harrison slammed his 11th home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh, adding an insurance run for Miami and making it 12-8.
- Two hits and an error in the ninth allowed the Wolverines to bring two runners home and cut their deficit to 12-10 with two outs. Austin Berggren recorded the final out to wrap up a 12-10 decision, the RedHawks' second win against a member of the Big Ten this season.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Dierks went 2-for-5 with a run.
- Harrison went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
- Raether went 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.
- Roa went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
- Cruz went 3-for-4 with a run and three RBIs.
- Krupinski went 1-for-2 with a run, an RBI and three HBPs.
- Marc Iozzo pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, holding Michigan to one hit.
- The RedHawks finished the game with 14 hits. Michigan finished with 15 hits.
- Miami left 10 runners on base compared to Michigan's 11 runners left on base.
- McKie Field's attendance of 1,643 broke the previous record of 1,178 set on March 24, 2002 in McKie Field's inaugural game against Purdue. Today's contest also marked the third-ever game at McKie Field with an attendance of 1,000 or more (1,121 on April 9, 2005 versus Birmingham Southern).
- The three consecutive home runs by Raether, Roa and Cruz mark the first back-to-back-to-back home runs in Red and White history.
UP NEXT:
The RedHawks will welcome Central Michigan to McKie Field this weekend for a three-game home series against the Chippewas. Game one is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m.
