Burke Leads RedHawks to 6-3 Win Over Rockets

TOLEDO, Ohio – Miami took game two from Toledo on Saturday in a 6-3 win after eight phenomenal innings on the mound by Clayton Burke, who improved his season record to 6-1. Burke finished the game having allowed four hits, one walk and no earned runs after 8.2 innings pitched. The RedHawks improve to 25-12 (14-6 MAC) with the win, while Toledo falls to 16-22 (12-8 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Burke held Toledo scoreless in the first four innings, holding the Rockets to three hits.
- Ryan Novak and Jamie Rasmussen led off the fifth for Miami with back-to-back singles, setting up Matthew Buffington for his third home of the year, a three-run blast to left-center that broke the tie and made it a 3-0 RedHawk advantage.
- Burke recorded three straight outs to end the fifth still ahead by three.
- Miami scored one run in the sixth. After Dominic Krupinski walked and advanced on a wild pitch, Novak singled to make it a 4-0 ballgame. Burke had another one-two-three inning in the bottom of the inning.
- The RedHawks added two more insurance runs in the seventh, capitalizing on two hits and an error. Buffington and Marcus Dierks both walked and Evan Appelwick singled to drive in a run. Tommy Harrison followed with a fielder's choice that brought in a run and stretched Miami's lead to 6-0.
- Burke had his third straight three up, three down inning in the bottom of the seventh to hold the lead. He had his fourth straight in the eighth to allow the RedHawks to hold the six-run lead headed into the ninth.
- After a double and an error put two aboard for Toledo with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, the Rockets pulled back within three runs with a three-run homer. Marc Iozzo came in to record the final out, wrapping up the 6-3 victory.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Burke gave up no earned runs and allowed just five hits and one walk in 8.2 innings.
- Appelwick went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a double.
- Harrison went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
- Novak went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
- Buffinton had three RBIs and two runs.
