RedHawks Split Doubleheader With Ball State

OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University softball team (32-14, 13-7 MAC) split its doubleheader against Ball State University (17-24, 4-16 MAC) on Friday afternoon, winning the first game 7-3 and losing the second 10-1. The RedHawks totaled four home runs in the first game, and Katy Olive hit her 15th home run of the season. She leads the MAC in home runs and is tied for 38th in the nation.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
- Miami got on the board 1-0 in the second inning with an RBI single from Bailey Manos.
- Ball State followed it up with three runs in the top of the third: a two-run double and an RBI double.
- The RedHawks tightened the gap to 3-2 in the bottom of the third. Danitza Hernandez got on base with a triple to center field, and Mckenna Campbell then hit an RBI single.
- Miami tied up the game in the fourth with a home run from Ella Carter.
- The Red and White took the lead in the fifth, 5-3. Katy Olive hit a two-run homer into the pond.
- Miami added to its lead with back-to-back home runs from Manos and Estrello.
- The RedHawks went on to close out a 7-3 victory.
NOTES
- Bailey Manos went 3-for-4 at the plate with one home run and two RBI.
- Ella Carter went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run.
- Presley Hosick pitched a complete game, allowing only five hits and two earned runs; she recorded three strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2)
- The Cardinals started the scoring 2-0 with a two-run double to left field.
- Carter hit a sacrifice fly to put the RedHawks on the board, 2-1.
- Ball State broke the game open in the fourth, posting eight runs on multiple walks, a hit by pitch, and a three-run double to center.
- The RedHawks lost 10-1 in the fifth inning, enacting the run rule.
NOTES
- Katy Olive went 1-for-2 at the plate with one run.
