Sohosky Leads RedHawks Past Rockets, 7-2

TOLEDO, Ohio – Miami picked up a 7-2 conference win over Toledo Friday after scoring in five different innings. Zac Sohosky was the game's winning pitcher, making his 10th start for the RedHawks and holding the Rockets to two runs in eight innings of work. The RedHawks improve to 24-12 (13-6 MAC) with the win, while Toledo falls to 16-21 (12-7 MAC).

Game two against the Rockets will take place tomorrow and has been moved back two hours to 3 p.m. The RedHawks will finish their series against Toledo on Sunday with a 1 p.m. game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Toledo scored first, putting up back-to-back singles in the second inning and hitting a sacrifice groundout to take a 1-0 lead.
- After a single and a steal by Marcus Dierks, two wild pitches allowed Miami to tie the game 1-1 in the third inning.
- In the bottom of the third, the Rockets took a 2-1 lead with a single and an RBI double.
- Miami tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning. Carson Raether led off for Miami with a single, and after a fielder's choice, Dominic Krupinski singled and advanced on the throw to put two runners in scoring position. A sac fly by Diego Cruz gave the RedHawks their second run of the day.
- Dierks led off the fifth inning with a single, and Tommy Harrison doubled to put runners at the corner. An RBI groundout by Ryan Novak gave the RedHawks their first lead of the day.
- After a scoreless sixth, Miami extended their lead to 5-2 with two runs in the seventh. Harrison and Novak led led off the inning with back-to-back singles, and Ignacio Gonzalez drove in a run with a single to left center. Krupinski followed and hit into a fielder's choice that scored Miami's lead runner.
- Sohosky finished out an eight-inning outing by holding the Rockets hitless and scoreless during innings four, five, six, seven and eight.
- The RedHawks added two insurance runs in the ninth on one hit. After Harrison and Novak walked and advanced on a groundout, Gonzalez sent both runners home with a single up the middle.
- Austin Berggren rounded out the game by recording three straight outs in the bottom of the ninth.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Dierks went 3-for-5 with a run.
- Harrison went 3-for-4 with a double.
- Raether went 1-for-2 with a run.
- Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run.
- Sohosky pitched 8.0 innings, holding the Rockets to eight hits, two runs, and one walk while striking out six batters.
- The RedHawks outhit Toledo eight to three.
- Miami left 10 runners on base and Toledo left eight on base.
