- Miami took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Diego Cruz took first base after an HBP, stole second base and advanced to third base on an error. Matthew Buffington drove him home with a groundout.
- Purdue answered with two runs in the bottom of the second. After two HBPs, the Boilers hit an RBI single and a sac fly to take the lead.
- The RedHawks took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third. Ignacio Gonzalez reached on a fielding error, and Krupinski singled to put runners at the corners. Ryan Novak sent Gonzalez home with a sac fly and Cruz singled to bat in Krupinski.

- Purdue tied the game with a solo home run in the fourth.
- Geiser, Jake Tedesco and Austin Berggren held the Boilermakers scoreless through regulation. Berggren finished the ninth inning with back-to-back swinging strikeouts.

- At the top of the 11th inning, Marcus Dierks led off with a double and advanced to third on a single by Evan Appelwick. With nobody out, Tommy Harrison walked and loaded the bases. On a 2-2 count, Krupinski hit a single through the left side, scoring Dierks to take a 4-3 lead. Novak followed with a sac fly, adding an insurance run and making it a 5-3 ballgame.
- After giving up a leadoff double, the RedHawks turned a tight double play to set up a two-out, empty-bases situation. Iozzo sent down the game's final batter to put a lid on Miami's 5-3 victory over the Boilermakers.
