RedHawks Lose 14-11 Battle with No. 22 Kentucky

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first inning, Miami took a 2-0 lead in the second. Krupinski led off with a solo homer, his fifth home run of the year. Matthew Buffington followed with a single to center field, and Christopher Roa doubled down the right-field line to score Buffington and extend the lead to two runs.
- Kentucky nabbed one run in the bottom of the second, making it a 2-1 game after an HBP, stolen bag and RBI single.
- Kaden Pfeffer had a one-two-three inning on the mound for Miami in the third to maintain the Miami lead.
- Keenan Proctor led off the top of the fourth with a single and advanced two bases on the same play due to a fielding error. Diego Cruz delivered a sac fly that put Miami back ahead by two runs, 3-1.
- A leadoff walk allowed Kentucky to hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth, tying the game at three runs apiece. The Wildcats then loaded the bases via a walk and two HBPs. Another HBP, a single and two walks made it a 7-3 game in favor of the Wildcats.
- The RedHawks put up two runs in the fifth to make the score 7-5. With one out and the bases loaded, Proctor recorded an RBI fielder's choice. Cruz followed with a single to left field that brought in one more run.
- Marc Iozzo held Kentucky to one hit in the fifth to prevent any further damage.
- The RedHawks reclaimed the lead in the sixth, cycling through their entire batting order en route to scoring five runs. Marcus Dierks led off with a walk, setting up Ryan Novak for an RBI double to start up the Miami offense. After Tommy Harrison took an HBP, Krupinski singled, driving in a run to tie the game at 7-7. Buffington was then hit by a pitch, loading the bases, and Proctor walked to force in another run. Roa came up with a two-RBI single to give Miami a 10-7 lead.
- Kentucky answered with three runs of their own on two hits, tying the game again at 10-10 through six complete innings.
- Miami loaded the bases with one out in the seventh but was unable to score. In the bottom of the inning, the Wildcats pulled back ahead, scoring one run on one hit to make it 11-10.
- Kentucky added three insurance runs in the eighth on two hits, pulling ahead 14-10.
- Evan Appelwick singled in the ninth and scored as Harrison doubled to left field, but the RedHawks were unable to close the rest of the gap, finalizing a 14-11 decision.
- Dierks went 2-for-5 with a run.
- Krupinski went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBIs, and two walks.
- Buffington went 1-for-2 with two runs.
- Roa went 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
UP NEXT:
The RedHawks return home this week on Thursday, April 2, at 3 p.m. to play a three-game series against Ball State.
