OXFORD, Ohio – The RedHawks beat Ball State 14-4 Thursday in seven innings, winning via the run rule after scoring five runs in the seventh. Evan Appelwick spearheaded the offense, recording five RBIs and three runs, including his 11th home run of the season. Miami moves to 18-10 (8-5 MAC) with the win, while Ball State drops to 15-13 (10-3 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Zac Sohosky pitched two strikeouts and a fielder's choice in the first, getting out of the first inning with 12 pitches.
- Marcus Dierks came up with a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first and Tommy Harrison singled. Ryan Novak took an HBP to load the bases. With two outs, Dierks scored Miami's first run on a passed ball.
- Carson Raether recorded a leadoff walk in the second and advanced as Christopher Roa singled to right-center. Appelwick delivered a two-RBI double to extend Miami's lead to three runs, and Harrison recorded his second single of the day to drive in Appelwick, making it a 4-0 game.
- A strikeout and two groundouts held back the Cardinals in the third. Sohosky and the defense came up with a popout and a double play in the fourth.
- Ball State pulled back within one run of the RedHawks in the fifth inning as a walk and four back-to-back singles forced in three runs.
- Harrison sent a solo shot to left field in the bottom of the fifth to rebuild a two-run lead for the RedHawks, 5-3.
- Carson Byers came into the game to pitch in relief in the sixth, surrendering just one run while pulling the RedHawks out of a jam. The run made it a 5-4 ballgame.
- Diego Cruz led off the bottom of the sixth with a single up the middle and Dierks walked. Appelwick hit his 11th home run of the year to add three to the tally and make it an 8-4 Miami lead. Novak followed with an insurance solo homer to pull ahead 9-4.
- Byers held Ball State scoreless in the top of the seventh. In the bottom, Cruz reached first on a wild pitch, setting up Roa for an RBI single. Two walks loaded the bases, and Harrison took an HBP to make it an 11-4 game. Novak immediately followed with a two-RBI single to put Miami ahead by nine. A walk reloaded the bags, and Raether had a walk-off walk, forcing in the run that put Miami ahead by 10 to enact the run-rule.

- Dierks had three walks and four runs.
- Appelwick went 2-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs.
- Harrison went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run.
- Novak went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run.
- Roa went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.
- Sohosky pitched 5.1 innings and earned the win.
- Byers pitched 1.2 scoreless innings.
