RedHawks Host Kent State With MAC Title on the Line

ON TAP: The Miami women's basketball team hosts Kent State on Wednesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. A win versus the Flashes would give the RedHawks their first Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship since the 2003-04 campaign.
DOUBLE TROUBLE: Amber Tretter has 28 double-doubles (third-best in program history) in her career and is a near walking double-double in points (14.3) and rebounds (8.1) this season. She is on pace to become just the second RedHawk in program history to record 1,000 career rebounds and has scored 1,063 career points, which ranks 25th in program history. She has scored in double figures in 23 of 29 games this season.
BALANCED SCORING: Miami has four players averaging double-digits, led by Amber Tretter (14.3 ppg.). She is joined by Amber Scalia (13.9 ppg.), Ilse de Vries (12.7 ppg.) and Tamar Singer (10.9 ppg.). Tretter has led the team in scoring eight times, while the other three have done it six time each this season.
SCALIA WATCH: Amber Scalia recently surpassed 1,500 career points and is currently sitting at 199 career three pointers. Miami is one of 34 schools nationally with an active 1,500-point scorer in men's (Peter Suder) and women's basketball (Scalia).
BY THE MARGINS: Miami is currently third in the MAC in scoring (71.3) and first in defense (58.3), which results in a 13.0 point margin of victory, second-best in the conference. The RedHawks are second in the MAC in field goal percentage (45.3%), first in three-point percentage (34.9%) and second in free throw percentage (75.8%). Miami is first in turnover margin (5.1), third in assists (16.2) and third in steals (10.8).
AKRON RECAP: Four RedHawks scored in double figures as Miami downed Akron, 74-56, on Saturday afternoon. Núria Jurjo led the way with 15 points, while Amber Scalia (13), Macie Taylor (13) and Tamar Singer (12) all scored in double figures. Miami forced Akron into 21 turnovers, resulting in 28 points. Miami allowed zero points on the 10 turnovers they committed.
BENCH PRESS: Over the past two games Miami's bench has exploded for 34 points. The RedHawks posted 16 bench points in the win over Eastern Michigan and added 18 points last Saturday versus Akron.
MAC MOMENTUM: Miami opened conference play at 11-0, the best start in program history before UMass downed the RedHawks 65-64 on Feb. 14. The loss also snapped a 13-game win streak, one shy of the all-time school record, set by the 1982-83 squad.Â
MAKING HISTORY: The 24 wins this season is tied for the most in program history with the 1981-82 team. Miami's 15 conference wins rank second-best. Miami could match the program record for conference wins by finishing 17-1.
ABOUT KENT STATE: Kent State is in a three-way tie for sixth-place in the MAC at 14-14 overall and 8-8 in conference play. The Golden Flashes are led by Mya Babbitt (16.1 ppg.) and Janae Tyler (10.5 ppg.).

In his first year the RedHawks went 9-20 (6-12 MAC) and followed that up with a 19-12 (11-7 MAC) record, the second-best single-season turnaround in program history. This season the RedHawks are one win away from capturing a MAC Championship.

She has surpassed 20 points three times this season (none last year) and has led the team in scoring six times in 2025-26 (once all of last year).Â
PASSING RECORDS: Tamar Singer has 208 assists this season (20th-best in MAC history), which is a single season record for the RedHawks. She has posted 12 assists in a game twice (school record is 13) and is currently on pace to finish her sophomore campaign with 348 career assists (school record is 596 assists).
DE VRIES PLAYS OVERSEAS: This summer, sophomore Ilse de Vries represented the Netherlands as a member of the U20 National Team at the annual FIBA U20 EuroBasket League. In seven games, she averaged 11.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest. This season de Vries is averaging career bests in points, rebounds and assists. She has already posted 18 double-digit scoring contests after just three in 2024-25 and was named MAC Player of the Week on Jan. 27. She also leads the MAC in blocks/game (1.8).
121 AND COUNTING: Amber Scalia will be competing in her 121st career game on Wednesday. Prior to joining the RedHawks, Scalia played in 91 games over three years at St. Thomas, where she scored 1,091 points and shot 34% from long distance. She has scored 1,509 points (12.5/game), connected on 199 three pointers and is a career 41% shooter from the field over her career. Her 1,509 points ranks 129th among active scorers in the country.
