RedHawks Hit the Road for Saturday Contest at Marshall

SATURDAY: Miami travels to Marshall for a MAC-SBC Challenge contest on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. The Red and White enter this game with a 23-0 (11-0 MAC) record, its best start to a season in program history. The RedHawks have also secured the best start for a program in MAC history (originally set by WMU in 1975-76 at 19-0) and the longest win streak in MAC history (originally set by Kent State in 2001-02 at 21-0).
ABOUT MARSHALL: Marshall is currently 15-8 (7-4 SBC), as the Thundering Herd most recently defeated Southern Miss (81-77) and Arkansas State (70-61). Marshall went 20-13 (12-6 SBC) last year. Head coach Cornelius Jackson is in his second season with the Thundering Herd. Heading into the 2025-26 season, Marshall was selected to finish sixth overall in the 2025-26 SBC Preseason Men's Basketball Poll.Â
Redshirt senior Wyatt Fricks (14.6/game), graduate student Jalen Speer (14.3/game) and senior Noah Otshudi (14.1/game) lead the Thundering Herd offense in points. Fricks, Speer and Otshudi also average the most steals per contest (0.9/game). Speer has dished out the most assists as well (5.8/game). Graduate student Matt Van Komen has totaled the most rebounds (7.6/game) and blocks (2.6/game).
THE SERIES WITH THE THUNDERING HERD: This Saturday's away contest against the Thundering Herd will be the 78th meeting between the two programs. Miami leads in the series 48-29 all-time, as the Red and White are 19-18 when playing in Marshall against the Thundering Herd. Miami is currently on a one-game winning streak against the Thundering Herd, as the RedHawks' last victory over Marshall was a 79-74 win at the Cam Henderson Center on Dec. 2, 2023.Â

NATIONAL LEADERS: Miami ranks among the top of the nation in numerous statistical categories heading into this game, which includes being first in the country in effective field goal percentage (0.626), first in field goal percentage (53.6), first in scoring offense (92.8), eighth in three-point percentage (39.7), eighth in scoring margin (18.5), 17th in threes per game (10.9), 31st in defensive rebounds per game (27.43), 35th in free throw percentage (76.8), 36th in assist/turnover ratio (1.58), 39th in assists per game (17.2) and 62nd in bench points per game (28.17).Â
NATIONAL RANKINGS: Miami was ranked No. 23 overall in the Associated Press Top 25 men's college basketball poll on Monday, Feb. 2. The Red and White moved into the national rankings for the first time since Feb. 15, 1999 on Monday, Jan 19. The RedHawks are the first team from the MAC selected in the poll since the 2018-19 Buffalo Bulls. The Red and White also retained its highest ranking of the 2025-26 season on the Mid-Major Top 25® Poll, as Collegeinsider announced its newest poll on Monday as well, with the RedHawks ranked No. 2 overall. The RedHawks are just one of two teams that are still unbeaten at the Division I level (Arizona).Â
