OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (10-5, 2-2 MAC) defeated Buffalo (9-6, 1-3 MAC) in a four-set match (19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-13) on Friday evening.
Molly Creech led all players with 16 kills, while Grace Kreutz followed closely behind with 12 of her own. Kamryn Utley was a key facilitator for the Red and White, as she produced a team-high 22 assists. Defensively, Lauren Coyne put down the most blocks of the match with six, and Rachel Morgan led the RedHawks with 14 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Bulls jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the opening set. Miami fought back to within three points at 12-9 after the RedHawks put down multiple kills and a block. A pair of kills from Coyne and a block kept Miami within striking distance at 16-14. Despite the strong effort, the Red and White came no closer, falling 25-19 in the first set.
- A flurry of kills from the RedHawks, fueled by Kreutz, who knocked down four of her own, propelled Miami to a 12-8 advantage in the beginning of the second set. The Bulls shrank Miami's lead to 18-17 before a kill from Michelin and Creech forced a Buffalo timeout. The Bulls committed numerous late errors to help the RedHawks secure a 25-21 second-set win.
- The Red and White claimed momentum at the start of the third set by grabbing a 9-4 lead. Buffalo began making a push for the lead when a Kreutz kill, an Utley service ace and a Creech kill sent the RedHawks into the media timeout on top 15-9. With the score tied at 19 apiece, Kreutz recorded a solo block and kill to drive the RedHawks to a 25-21 third-set victory.
- Miami continued its strong play at the beginning of the fourth set, as the RedHawks claimed an 8-2 lead. The Bulls climbed their way back into the match at 12-8 when the Red and White responded with a 5-0 run thanks to multiple errors from the visitors and two kills from the RedHawks. Raegan Lantz helped seal a 25-13 fourth-set win with a kill and two late blocks.

- Utley's 22 assists were a season high.
