RedHawks Host UMass Tuesday Night on ESPNU

TUESDAY: Miami hosts UMass on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 9 p.m. The Red and White enter this game with a 20-0 (8-0 MAC) record, its best start to a season in program history. The RedHawks secured the best start for a program in MAC history at 20-0 with their last victory (originally set by WMU in 1975-76 at 19-0).
ABOUT UMASS: UMass is currently 13-8 (4-5 MAC), as the Minutemen most recently defeated Buffalo on the road (68-67) Friday night and Toledo (84-82) at home on Tuesday night. UMass went 12-20 (7-11 A10) last year. Head coach Frank Martin is in his fourth season with the Minutemen. Heading into the 2025-26 season, UMass was selected to finish fifth overall in the 2025-26 MAC Preseason Men's Basketball Poll. Senior forward Daniel Hankins-Sanford was named to the Preseason All-MAC Second Team.
Graduate student forward Leonardo Bettiol leads the Minutemen in points (17.1/game) and rebounds (7.5/game). Freshman guard Danny Carbuccia has recorded the most assists (6.0/game), guard/forward Jayden Ndjigue has totaled the most steals (1.7/game), and Hankins-Sanford has produced the most blocks (0.8/game).Â
THE SERIES WITH THE MINUTEMEN: This Tuesday's home contest against the Minutemen will be the third meeting between the two programs. UMass leads in the series 2-0 all-time. The RedHawks fell 73-65 on Jan. 4, 2014 and dropped 70-69 on Jan. 2, 2013.

RECENT ACTION: The Miami University men's basketball team outlasted Kent State in a 107-101 overtime victory Tuesday night. A layup by Luke Skaljac with six seconds remaining in the second half forced overtime for the Red and White. Peter Suder led the RedHawks with 27 points and 10 rebounds, while Eian Elmer followed closely behind in points with 25. Skaljac (18), Brant Byers (11) and Antwone Woolfolk (10) added double digits for Miami. The Red and White shot 50% (38-of-70) or better from the field for the 16th time this season. Miami committed only six turnovers (the sixth time this season the RedHawks have recorded under 10 turnovers in a game) and forced 16 turnovers by the Golden Flashes. Miami is now 8-0 to start conference play for the first time since the 1994-95 season. The RedHawks have now tied the program record for most consecutive road wins in a season and now hold the new program record for most consecutive road wins overall. With Tuesday's overtime win over the Golden Flashes, Miami now holds 700 MAC victories, the most in MAC history.Â
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE: With Miami's most recent home victory in overtime versus Buffalo (105-102), the Red and White extended its home win streak to 26 games (the most consecutive home wins in program history). Last season, Miami set a new record of 15 consecutive home wins over the course of one season.
CENTURY CLUB: Tuesday's win marks the second consecutive game that Miami has taken down an opponent that scored 100 or more points (previously hadn't been done since a 110-102 victory against Evansville on Dec. 9, 1987). This is the third game in a row that Miami has scored 100 or more points against a conference opponent (previously hadn't been done since Jan. 5, 2002 in a 100-94 double overtime victory at Central Michigan). This is the seventh time that the RedHawks have scored 100 or more points this season (the most in program history).Â
NATIONAL RANKINGS: Miami was ranked No. 25 overall in the Associated Press Top 25 men's college basketball poll for the first time since Feb. 15, 1999 on Monday, Jan. 19. The RedHawks are now the first team from the MAC selected in the poll since the 2018-19 Buffalo Bulls. The Red and White also retained its highest ranking of the 2025-26 season on the Mid-Major Top 25® Poll, as Collegeinsider announced its new poll Monday as well, with the RedHawks ranked No. 2 overall. The RedHawks are just one of three teams that are still undefeated at the Division I level (Arizona, Miami and Nebraska). Miami ranks among the top of the nation in numerous statistical categories heading into its next game, which includes being first in the country in effective field goal percentage (0.634), first in field goal percentage (54.0), first in scoring offense (94.6), third in three-point percentage (41.2), eighth in scoring margin (19.9), ninth in threes per game (11.4), 25th in free throw percentage (77.3), 25th in defensive rebounds per game (27.90), 32nd in assist/turnover ratio (1.59), 38th in assists per game (17.5) and 41st in bench points per game (30.55).Â
