
Late Run Propels Miami Over BGSU, 51-49

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Miami University women's basketball team used a 7-2 run to close the contest in a 51-49 road victory at Bowling Green on Saturday afternoon. Ilse de Vries had a game-high 17 points, Amber Scalia added 12 and Amber Tretter chipped in with 10 as the RedHawks (14-4, 6-0 MAC) captured their seventh-straight win. The Falcons fall to 10-7, 3-3 MAC.

How it Happened:
- Bowling Green scored the first eight points of the contest and led 8-0 midway through the opening quarter. Miami's defense would then not allow a bucket in the final 5:32 to claim a 10-8 lead after 10 minutes of play. Four different RedHawks scored during the 10-0 run, including three-pointers from Tamar Singer and Clara Gonzalez Planella.
- The Falcons opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run before a layup from Ide Vries ended the Miami drought. BGSU claimed a four-point lead four minutes into the quarter, but a triple from Scalia made it a one-point contest with 5:06 left in the half. Scalia added her second triple of the quarter to knot the score at 21 apiece, but the Falcons would lead 24-22 at the half.
- Both teams exchanged buckets for the first four minutes of the second half, with Bowling Green clinging to a 31-30 advantage. After Bowling Green pushed their lead to 36-32, Singer found Tretter for a layup. Moments later, BGSU once again knocked in a triple and led 39-34 with 46 second left in the third quarter. de Vries responded quickly with a straight-away three-pointer of her own to make it a 39-37 contest heading to the final quarter.
- BGSU began the final stanza with a 5-0 run and led 44-37 with 7:44 remaining. Three-straight points from Tretter, followed by a layup from Núria Jurjo closed the gap, 44-42. Moments later, Singer stole the ball in the front court and found Scalia to force a BGSU timeout at 44-44. Bowling Green responded with a three-point play. After de Vries' layup made it 47-46, Jurjo stole the ball at mid-court and walked in for a layup to claim a 48-47 lead. After a defensive stop, Tretter and Singer worked a perfect pick-and-roll to go up 50-47 with 40 seconds to play. After BGSU made it 50-49, Tretter's free throw extended Miami's lead to 51-49. BGSU's three-pointer at the buzzer was just off as the RedHawks claimed the victory.
Game Notes:
- Miami forced 28 BGSU turnovers, which resulted in 32 Miami points. The RedHawks are now 9-2 on the year when they force at least 20 turnovers in a game.
- Tamar Singer had nine assists, ending her three-game streak of double-digit assists. She also had five steals.
- To go along with 17 points, Ilse de Vries had six rebounds and three blocks.
- Amber Scalia connected on three shots from behind the arc.
