RedHawks Roll Past Buffalo in Three Sets

BUFFALO, N.Y.— The Miami University volleyball team (8-6, 2-0 MAC) rolled past Buffalo (3-8, 0-2 MAC) in a three-set victory (25-18, 25-22, 25-23) on Friday evening at Alumni Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Buffalo opened the first set with a 4-2 lead, but an Ellie Hanson service ace and a Molly Creech kill fueled a 6-1 Miami run for an 8-5 advantage. Buffalo closed within one at 11-10, but a Kamryn Utley service ace and kills from Lydia Michelin, Lauren Coyne and Gentry Warrick put Miami up 17-11. Michelin's solo block and kill secured the 25-18 first-set win.
  • Miami began the second set with three consecutive kills to take a 3-0 advantage. A couple of attack errors from the Bulls and a Coyne kill forced a Bulls timeout at 8-4. Despite a strong push from Buffalo, Miami managed to fend off the Bulls after Warrick put down a solo block at 15-10. Three late kills from Coyne set the RedHawks up with a 22-16 lead. The scoring gap proved too large, as Miami took the second set 25-22.
  • The Bulls came out strong in the third set, commanding an early 6-3 lead. A pair of kills from the RedHawks and a Hayden Hicks service ace evened the score at 9-9. Back-to-back kills from Hanson and a ball-handling error by the Bulls gave Miami a 14-12 edge midway through the set. Buffalo went on to take a 22-20 lead before Miami answered by outscoring the Bulls 5-1 and taking the final set 25-23.
NOTES:
  • Hanson led all players with 11 kills.
  • Anna McClure recorded a game-high 15 digs.
  • Hicks' 18 assists were the most of the match.
