OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami University volleyball team (8-7, 2-1 MAC) fell to Western Michigan (6-10, 3-0 MAC) in four sets (18-25, 25-21, 14-25, 18-25) on Thursday night at Millett Hall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- At the start of the first set, Lindy Radaszewski delivered two kills to bring the RedHawks within one at 3-2. Consecutive attack errors from Western Michigan kept the score close at 10-7, but the Broncos responded with five straight points to lead 15-7. As the RedHawks trailed 23-12, they responded with a 5-0 run, though their effort fell short as Western Michigan secured the set 25-18.
- Gentry Warrick made her presence felt at the start of the second set, as she had two kills and a block to help the RedHawks keep things even at 4-4. Western Michigan attempted to pull away at 10-6, but Lydia Michelin and Radaszewski hit a pair of kills to shrink the Broncos' advantage. Down 14-11, Molly Creech and Chelsea Williams combined for six kills to spark an 8-2 run and force a Western Michigan timeout at 19-16. A Grace Kreutz service ace and Radaszewski kill gave Miami a 25-21 second-set win.
- The Broncos came out strong in the third set, as they rolled to an 8-1 lead. A Warrick kill and solo block put the score at 10-5. Falling behind at 18-5, the RedHawks looked to gain some momentum after putting down numerous kills and a service ace. Western Michigan went on to take the third set 25-14.
- The Red and White scored the first three points of the fourth set before Western Michigan answered, evening the score at 5-5, and eventually taking an 11-5 lead. With the Broncos ahead 19-11, the RedHawks scored three straight points to stay in the fight at 19-14. A kill from Williams, a kill from Radaszewski and a Warrick solo block brought the RedHawks within three at 20-17, but they would come no closer, as Western Michigan secured a 25-18 fourth-set victory.
NOTES:
- Williams put down a team-high 12 kills (.423 Hitting percentage).
