No.1 Northwestern Downs Miami 5-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The RedHawks fell to the top-ranked Northwestern Sunday 5-1 after two early goals for the Wildcats. Miami falls to 3-2 with the loss while Northwestern improves to 6-0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Northwestern scored less than three minutes into the first period to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • Two minutes later, the Wildcats struck again, building the lead to 2-0.
  • Malena Sabez scored her fourth goal of the season two minutes into the second period, pulling the RedHawks back within one goal.
  • Northwestern scored the lone goal of the third period off a penalty corner to make it 3-1.
  • The Wildcats scored two more goals late in the fourth period to secure a decisive 5-1 victory.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
  • Miami tallied four penalty corners during the contest.
  • Goalkeeper Nicky Sjouken made six saves.
  • Sabez totaled three shots.
