LOUISVILLE, Ky.— The Miami University volleyball team (3-0) rolled past Indiana State (1-2) in three sets to go undefeated at the Bellarmine Classic on Saturday afternoon. Offensively,
Chelsea Williams led the match in kills (13), and
Hayden Hicks recorded the most assists (23). Defensively,
Gentry Warrick led all players in total blocks as she matched her career high (eight).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Williams opened the first set with three early kills, giving the RedHawks a 4-2 lead. Contributions from Molly Creech and Ellie Hanson, plus a service ace by Hicks, pushed the advantage to 15-7. Lauren Coyne and Lydia Michelin added to the scoring, making it 22-17. Warrick finished the set with a solo block for a 25-21 win.
- With the score tied at five apiece at the beginning of the second set, Miami found a groove offensively and went on to outscore the Sycamores 10-2, pulling ahead 15-7. The Red and White did not let up, as Warrick knocked down three kills and a solo block to help the RedHawks reach a 23-15 lead. An Indiana State attack error and a Coyne kill closed out the second set, giving Miami a 25-15 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
- After some initial back-and-forth play in the third set, a Coyne kill and a Lindy Radaszewski service ace gave the RedHawks an 8-5 advantage. Numerous kills from Williams helped Miami maintain the lead at 15-10. Indiana State narrowed the gap to 15-13, but the RedHawks finished strong on a 10-3 run to secure the third set, 25-16, and complete a 3-0 sweep in the match.
NOTES:
- Warrick is now tied for eighth in career solo blocks (60) for the RedHawks.
- Creech led all players with two service aces and 10 digs.
- Miami recorded its best attack percentage (.411) of the Bellarmine Classic.
