BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Miami fell to Samford 8-1 Sunday after being held to seven hits and leaving five runners on base.
Dillon Baker was an offensive bright spot for the RedHawks, accumulating three hits. The RedHawks fall to 25-20 with the win while the Bulldogs move to 24-21.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Samford took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first on two hits, a sac fly and an HBP.
- A three-run homer put Samford ahead 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
- The Bulldogs extended their lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs on three hits.
- Miami scored one run in the top of the sixth. Dillon Baker doubled and Anthony Zarlingo singled to drive in the RedHawks' only run.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Baker went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run.
- Zarlingo went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
UP NEXT: Miami faces Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday for a single game in Richmond, Ky., at 6 p.m. They will return home on Friday, May 9, to begin their final home series against Akron.
