MUNCIE, Ind. – Miami defeated Ball State in game one of their final regular season series Thursday, 4-3.
Blake Buzzeo batted in half of Miami's runs, recording two RBIs. Miami moves to 31-20 with the win (22-6 MAC) while the Cardinals fall to 34-18 (20-7 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami's first run came in the top of the first. Dillon Baker walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Evan Appelwick singled to left to give Miami an early lead.
- The RedHawks extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth. Appelwick led off with a walk and David Novak reached on a fielder's choice. Dominic Krupinski and Keenan Proctor each took an HBP to load the bases. Buzzeo delivered on a 1-1 count, hitting a two-RBI double to left.
- Proctor drove in Miami's last run in the sixth. Ty Batusich walked and Proctor doubled down the right field line to score Batusich.
- Ball State put up two runs in the bottom of the sixth via a two-run home run ball to left.
- The Cardinals homered in the bottom of the ninth with no outs to pull within one run, 4-3. Carson Byers managed to record three outs to secure a game-one victory.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Buzzeo recorded two RBIs and a double.
- Cooper Katskee pitched 5.1 innings, holding the Cardinals to three hits and two runs.
- Byers pitched 3.2 innings, holding the Cardinals to two hits and one run.
