OXFORD, Ohio – The RedHawks swept the Akron Zips on Sunday, winning 5-0 after eight total hits.
David Novak recorded three hits during the game, including a double. Miami moves to 30-20 with the win (21-6 MAC) while the Zips fall to 16-33 (9-21 MAC). The win marks the most ever conference wins in Miami program history, breaking the previous record of 20 set by the 1987 team and tied by the 1999 team.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Hayden Cuthbertson remained perfect on the mound into the fourth inning, surrendering no bases to the Zips.
- Miami went ahead 2-0 in the second. Dominic Krupinski took an HBP and Ty Batusich walked. Both advanced on a sac bunt by Dom Magliocca. Blake Buzzeo hit a sac fly to score one run and Dillon Baker singled to double the lead.
- David Novak and Krupinski hit back-to-back singles with two outs in the bottom of the third and Ty Batusich followed with another single to score one run. Krupinski scored to make it 4-0 as Batusich was caught stealing.
- Ryan Novak singled in the bottom of the seventh and advanced on a wild pitch. David Novak singled to make it 5-0.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- David Novak went 3-for-4 with a run.
- Batusich went 2-fo-3 with an RBI and a run.
- Cuthbertson pitched five scoreless innings, striking out four batters.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks will face Ball State next weekend in a three-game road series, their final series before the MAC Tournament. Game one starts on Thursday at 3 p.m.
