ATHENS, Ohio – The RedHawks split Saturday's doubleheader against Ohio, winning the first game 18-2 and dropping the second game 12-9. In game one,
Cooper Katskee picked up his ninth win of the season, holding the Bobcats to four hits in seven innings and
Dillon Baker went 5-for-5 with four runs. Baker stayed hot in game two, as he led the RedHawks once again by hitting 4-of-5 from the batter's box. The RedHawks move to 23-19 while the Bobcats are now 10-31.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ohio scored their first and only runs of the game in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs on two walks and two singles to make it 2-0.
- The RedHawks made it 2-1 in the top of the second. David Novak doubled to left field and Dominic Krupinski singled to send Novak home.
- Miami took the lead in the top of the third, scoring four runs. Dillon Baker led off with a double to right field. Ryan Novak doubled to score Baker and Anthony Zarlingo singled to score Novak. Evan Appelwick cleared the bases with a home run, his fourteenth of the season, to make it 5-2.
- Miami scored five more runs in the top of the fourth. Blake Buzzeo led off with a single and scored as Ryan Novak homered to left field to make it 7-2. Zarlingo singled and Appelwick took an HBP. Batusich singled through the right side, scoring Zarlingo. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. A sac fly by David Novak scoured Appelwick and Krupinski tripled, capping off the inning with a score of 10-2.
- Katskee struck out all three batters he faced in the bottom of the fourth.
- Miami added three to their score in the top of the fifth. Baker doubled and Ryan Novak walked and Zarlingo doubled to score Baker and Appelwick singled to score Novak. Appelwick advanced on a wild pitch and Batusich scored Zarlingo on a sac fly to make it 13-2.
- Blake Buzzeo walked in the top of the sixth and Dillon Baker doubled to bring him around. Ryan Novak walked to load the bases and a walk by Batusich forced the score to 15-2.
- The RedHawks capped off a seven-inning win with a three-run homer to right field by Ryan Novak.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Baker went 5-for-5 with four runs and an RBI.
- Ryan Novak went 3-for-4 with five runs and six RBIs.
- Zarlingo went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs.
- Appelwick went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs.
- Buzzeo went 2-for-4 with two runs.
- Katskee pitched the full game, holding the Bobcats to four hits and two runs while striking out five.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami took a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to three consecutive singles from Baker, Ryan Novak and Zarlingo that got the RedHawks offense going.
- The Bobcats had two runners on base from a walk and single when a home run pushed them ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the second inning.
- A flurry of singles helped push Ohio's advantage to 5-2. The Bobcats extended their lead to 8-2 after hitting another home run.
- Krupinski began the third inning by hitting a single, and David Novak walked to put two runners on base. Batusich went on to reach on a fielder's choice, and Proctor walked right after. A single from Buzzeo to left field sent two runners home to cut Ohio's lead to 8-4.
- A solo home run from the Bobcats put the score at 9-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- Baker got the RedHawks going in the sixth inning with a homer to left field. Later in the inning, David Novak smacked a home run of his own to score two more runs and come within one at 9-8.
- A sacrifice fly gave Ohio another run in the bottom of the sixth to add to its score at 10-8.
- Krupinski homered to right field in the top of the eighth inning to trail 10-9, but the RedHawks came no closer, as they went on to fall 12-9.
