OXFORD, Ohio – The RedHawks dropped their sweep attempt against the Toledo Rockets Sunday, losing by a score of 9-7.
Dillon Baker highlighted the stat sheet for the RedHawks, recording two RBIs and three hits. Miami falls to 7-8 (2-1 MAC) with the loss while Toledo improves to 5-9 (1-2 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Toledo hit a two-run home run to right field with two outs in the top of the first to take an early 2-0 lead.
- The RedHawks answered with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Baker got on base first as he took an HBP. Ty Batusich singled, and both advanced on a groundout. Dominic Krupinski hit an RBI single to put Miami on the board, 2-1.
- Miami took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the second, scoring three runs. Ryan Novak and Tommy Harrison both singled, and Baker drove in Novak with another single. Ty Batusich hit a sac fly that scored Harrison. Baker came across on a single by Anthony Zarlingo.
- Toledo reclaimed the lead in the top of the third, 5-4, with two solo home runs.
- Ryan Novak tied the game at 5-5 for the RedHawks in the bottom of the third. He drove in Krupinski, who had walked and advanced, with a single to right field.
- The Rockets tacked on three more runs in the top of the fifth. After a walk and an infield single, they scored two runs on a single to right field. Another run came home on a groundout.
- The RedHawks pulled within two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Ryan Novak walked, and Blake Buzzeo singled. Tommy Harrison took an HBP to load the bases, and Blake Buzzeo made it an 8-6 game with an infield single.
- A double and a single added one to Toledo's lead in the top of the seventh, making it 9-6.
- Miami came up with one run in the bottom of the eighth, making the score 9-7. Baker singled, and Zarlingo walked. Ryan Novak walked to load the bases. Krupinski singled to drive in Baker, but Miami left the remaining three runners on base.
- Carson Byers threw three straight outs, including two strikeouts, to keep the score close heading into the bottom of the ninth, but Miami was unable to rally.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Baker went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs.
- Krupinski went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.
- Ryan Novak went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.
- Carson Byers pitched 4.0 innings and held the Rockets to four hits and one run.

Miami will travel to the University of Cincinnati on Tuesday for a single game starting at 6 p.m. The RedHawks will resume MAC play with a three-game home series against the Northern Illinois Huskies starting on Friday, March 14.
