KALAMAZOO, Mich. – On Friday evening the Miami University softball team took down Western Michigan University with a pair of 5-4 wins. Madilyn Reeves surpassed 100 strikeouts on the season and Jenna Golembiewski reached 150 career hits. The RedHawks improve to 18-15 (8-0 Mid-American Conference). Western Michigan drops to 8-22 (2-3 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):

The RedHawks took an early lead in the top of the first when Shelby Kunkel hit a RBI single that allowed Kaylee Oh to cross home and take a 1-0 lead.
Later that inning, Chloe Parks hit a double to left field that scored Kunkel and doubled the Miami lead to 2-0.
In the bottom of the first, a solo homer from the Broncos cut the lead to 2-1.
The Broncos tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second with a RBI double.
Holly Merritt doubled in the top of the fourth to allow Ella Carter to cross home and take a 3-2 lead.
Still in the fourth, Mckenna Campbell hit a RBI double that scored Merritt. Danitza Hernandez followed that up with a single to center field that pushed Campbell across home and upped the lead to 5-2.
A two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth from the Broncos made it a 5-4 game.
However, the RedHawks held their lead to take the 5-4 win.

NOTES:

Reeves pitched the complete game, allowing just four runs and striking out eight. With the eight strikeouts, Reeves surpassed 100 strikeouts on the season (107).
Campbell and Parks each went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Kunkel went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Parks, Merritt, and Campbell each had doubles. Campbell had two.
Five different RedHawks had RBI, six had hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):

In the top of the second, a RBI single from Erin Pinter allowed Campbell to cross the plate and take a 1-0 lead for the RedHawks.
The Broncos tied the game up 1-1 in the bottom of the third with a RBI single to center field.
Golembiewski hit a two-run homer in the top of the fifth. Kunkel also scored to reclaim the lead for Miami 3-1.
In the top of the sixth, Campbell extended the RedHawks' lead to 4-1 with a solo homer over center field.
The Broncos tied it up with a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 4-4 game.
The score remained tied through the end of the seventh, sending the game into extra innings.
In the top of the eight, a triple from Pinter pushed Sydney Gilbert across home, taking the lead back for the RedHawks, 5-4. The RedHawks held this through the end of the inning to take the 5-4 win.

NOTES:

Golembiewski recorded her 150th career hit with a two-run homer.
Kunkel and Pinter went 2-for-3 at the plate. Campbell went 3-for-4.
Léa Chevrier went seven innings in the circle, earning the win, and striking out six.
Reeves closed out the game on the mound, earning the save and not allowing a single run.
Seven different RedHawks had hits.
The Red and White had five extra-base hits in the game.
