Miami Takes Game One Over WMU, 11-5

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami defeated the Western Michigan Broncos Friday in an 11-5 comeback win. Ryan Novak recorded five RBIs for the RedHawks during the game. Miami improves to 13-12 (8-2 MAC) with the victory while WMU falls to 6-17 (4-6 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Western Michigan took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, hitting a double and then a single to score.
  • The Broncos earned three runs in the top of the fourth off three hits, including a two-run home run.
  • Ty Batusich kickstarted Miami's offense with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. Tommy Harrison walked, Blake Buzzeo reached on an error, and Batusich delivered the blast to pull the RedHawks within one run, 4-3.
  • The RedHawks took a 7-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Evan Appelwick singled and David Novak walked. Dominic Krupinski hit a bunt single to juice the bases. Ryan Novak drove in two runs with a triple. Tommy Harrison grounded out, allowing Ryan Novak to run home.
  • The Broncos cut their deficit to two runs on a sacrifice groundout in the top of the seventh that scored one.
  • Miami scored three insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh on three hits. Appelwick doubled down the left field line and David Novak took an HBP. Krupinski loaded the bases with a single. Ryan Novak singled, driving in two runs and making the score 9-5. Blake Buzzeo came up with a sac fly to make it a 10-5 game.
  • David Novak homered to left-center in the bottom of the eighth to stretch the lead to 11-5.

Miami will play games two and three of their series against the Broncos tomorrow in a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 12 p.m., and game two will begin approximately 40 minutes after game one concludes.
