RedHawks Drop to Butler, 10-7

OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University baseball team dropped to the Butler Bulldogs Wednesday afternoon 10-7. Miami falls to 12-12 (7-2 MAC) while Butler rises to 7-16 (0-0 Big East) with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A flurry of walks and wild pitches in the second inning led to Butler taking a 4-0 lead. The RedHawks attempted to respond but left three on base at the end of the second inning.
  • In the top of the third inning, the Bulldogs took advantage of numerous runners on base after being walked with a pair of singles to extend their lead by three runs at 7-0. After Ty Batusich reached on a fielder's choice, Evan Appelwick smacked an RBI double to send Batusich home and make it a 7-1 ballgame.
  • A home run added to Butler's lead in the top of the fourth inning to make it 8-1.
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, Anthony Zarlingo reached first base after being walked. Batusich followed this up by hitting an RBI double to put the score at 8-2. A flyout from David Novak scored Batusich to bring the Red and White within five at 8-3.
  • Dillon Baker got the RedHawks going with a double to left center in the bottom of the seventh inning and he advanced to third on an error by the Bulldogs. Butler went on to escape the seventh inning, without giving up a run, as Miami left two on base.
  • Dominic Krupinski doubled to left field in the eighth inning. Ryan Novak hit an RBI single up the middle to cut the deficit to 8-4.
  • The Bulldogs added two more runs in the top of the ninth inning to increase the scoring gap to 10-4 as the end of the game approached.
  • Zarlingo reached first on an error by the pitcher. Batusich stepped up to the plate and homered to right field to shrink the gap to 10-6. A pair of singles and a couple of walks led to the RedHawks adding another run, but the RedHawks effort fell just short, as Butler claimed a 10-7 victory.

  • Batusich went 2-for-5 with three RBI and three runs.
  • Krupinski went 2-for-4 with one run and one walk.
