RedHawks Excel in Outdoor Season Opener

OXFORD, Ohio-- The Miami track and field teams started their outdoor season this Friday with the Blizzard Bluster at the George L. Rider Track in Oxford. The RedHawks combined for 17 different first-place finishes across the men's and women's events on the day. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the women's 100-meter dash, Abby Suszek finished in first place with a new personal best time of 11.97 seconds. After her impressive indoor season, Suszek starts the outdoor season off by beating her previous time by .52 seconds. Keira McGregor (12.02 seconds), Ella Scally (12.15 seconds), Riley Betz (12.30 seconds), and Keena Sanders (12.48 seconds) also ran in the women's 100-meter dash, and they finished in second, third, fifth, and eighth place, respectively. In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Erin Connors finished in second place with a time of 1:03.45. Ella Garvin (1:06.91), Madison Berger (1:08.87), and Sydney Harmon (1:09.15) also ran in the women's 400-meter hurdles, and they finished in fifth, seventh, and eighth place, respectively. In the women's 200-meter dash, Betz finished in third place with a time of 25.43 seconds. Chloe Rickson (25.93 seconds) took fifth, while Kate Pratt (26.73 seconds) and Sophia Scavuzzo (26.73 seconds) tied for ninth. The women's 4x100 Miami (A) team of Betz, McGregor, Scally, and Suszek finished in first place with a time of 46.16 seconds. With this time, Betz, McGregor, Scally and Suszek are now in ninth place in RedHawk history for the 4x100-meter relay. The Miami "B" team of Rickson, Sanders, Pratt, and Harmon finished in second place in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 48.55 seconds. Miami's 4x100-meter "C" relay team (Scavuzzo, Garvin, Abbi Deisch, and Elle Miller) finished third with a time of 52.15 seconds. In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Harmon (15.43 seconds) and Berger (15.44 seconds) finished in third and fourth place, respectively.
- On the field for the women, Ella Rigel finished in first place in the women's hammer throw with 60.30 meters. Sharron Kagan also competed in the women's hammer, taking ninth place with 43.78 meters. In the women's javelin throw, Allie Melchiorre finished in second place with 38.56 meters. Maggie Dougherty (37.72 meters), Caroline Kagy (28.18 meters) and Carly Cambria (24.56 meters) also competed in the javelin throw, and they finished in fourth, seventh, and 10th place, respectively. In the women's shot put event, Kennedy Cunningham finished in seventh place with 11.66 meters. In the women's discus throw event, Kagy finished in third place with 40.01 meters. Kagan also competed in the women's discus throw event, and she finished in fifth place with 38.90 meters. Scally finished in first place in the women's long jump event with 5.55 meters. Miller (5.55 meters), Mikayla de Souza (5.48 meters), and Rickson (5.38 meters) finished in second, third, and fourth place, respectively. In the women's pole vault event, Mia Boule finished in first place with 3.90 meters. Emily Eterovich (3.60 meters), Grace Hicks (3.45 meters), and Eleanor Truckel (3.00 meters) also competed in the women's pole vault event, and they finished in third, fourth, and eighth place, respectively. In the women's high jump event, Deisch and Garvin tied for second place with 1.65 meters, just ahead of Miller (also 1.65 meters). Madison Sisler (1.55 meters) came in sixth.
- In the women's 1500-meter run, Eve Traficanti finished in first place with a new personal best time of 4:41.95, nearly two seconds faster than her previous PR. Nora Zubillaga also ran in the 1500-meter, and she finished right behind Traficanti with a personal best time of 4:43.19, three tenths of a second faster than her previous time. Avery Emerson (4:44.32), Linda Conchetto (4:46.04), and Cara Naas (4:54.78) rounded out the top 10 for the RedHawks in the 1500-meter as they finished in fourth, sixth, and ninth place. In the women's 3000-meter run, Naas took ninth with a mark of 10:39.56. Miami swept the top three spots in the 800-meter run, paced by Traficanti (2:14.27), Nora Zubillaga (2:16.73) and Emerson (2:17.78). Conchetto (2:22.91) and Gretchen Feldkamp (2:23.18) also turned in solid times, taking sixth and seventh place.
- In the men's 100-meter dash, Leo Bouldin came in first with a time of 10.72 seconds. Angelo Vassilakis finished right behind Bouldin in second place with a time of 10.76 seconds. Joey Valeski (10.87 seconds), John Podojil (10.90 seconds), Micah Schuster (10.91 seconds), Remy Schulz (11.08 seconds) and Mitchell Wiemuth (11.11 seconds) all ran in the 100-meter dash as well, and they finished in third, fourth, fifth, seventh, and ninth place, respectively. In the men's 110-meter hurdles, Jaxson Tober finished in first place with a time of 15.13 seconds. Carter Herman also ran in the men's 110-meter hurdles, and he finished in third place with a time of 15.59 seconds. In the men's 400-meter dash, JD Leverette finished in fourth place with a time of 52.91 seconds. In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Tober finished in first place with a time of 55.54 seconds. In the men's 200-meter dash, Schuster finished in first place with a time of 22.19 seconds. Bouldin (22.23 seconds), Valeski (22.33 seconds), and Schulz (22.78 seconds) finished also ran in the men's 200-meter dash and they finished in second, third, and eighth place, respectively. In the men's 4x100-meter relay, the Miami "A" team of Rondale Carridine, Bouldin, Vassilakis, and Podojil finished in first place with a time of 42.54 seconds. The Miami "D" team of Kirk Knecht, Andrew Farrow, Henry Hoblitzell, and Logan Vowles also ran in the 4x100 relay, and they finished in second place with a time of 45.32 seconds. The last 4x100 RedHawk relay team to place was the Miami "B" Â team of Wiemuth, Herman, Schulz, and Jayson Harrison, which came in third.
- On the field for the men, Farrow finished in first place in the men's long jump with 7.04 meters. This distance is a new PR for Farrow as he beat his previous record by .02 meters. Vowles (6.62 meters) and Knecht (6.45 meters) also competed in the men's long jump event and finished in second and fourth place, respectively. In the men's pole vault event, Hoblitzell finished in first place with 4.91 meters. In the men's discus throw, Adam Smith finished first with a new best distance of 53.56 meters. This distance puts Smith at eighth all time in RedHawk history for the men's discus throw. Richard Obioha (49.15 meters), Owen Billeter (47.57 meters), Ben Riegel (45.48 meters), Reilly Worthington (43.31 meters), and Gabe Asbury (42.97 meters) all competed in the discus throw as well, and they finished in third, fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth place. The RedHawks had five different top-10 finishers in the men's hammer throw event. Riegel (54.69 meters), Asbury (53.35 meters), Billeter (51.96 meters), Worthington (50.38 meters), and Blake Presley (50.11 meters) finished in second, third, fourth, sixth, and seventh place, respectively. In the men's javelin throw event, Matthew Howard was the highest placing RedHawk, coming in second with 56.19 meters. Clark Helgason (52.11 meters), Smith (51.31 meters), and CJ Johnson (51.15 meters) also competed in the men's javelin event, and they finished in third, fourth, and fifth place, respectively. In the men's shot put event, the RedHawks again placed five throwers in the top 10. Riegel was the highest-placing RedHawk, taking first with 15.81 meters. Worthington (14.92 meters), Smith (14.57 meters), Presley (14.42 meters), and Obioha (14.00 meters) finished in fourth, seventh, eighth, and ninth place, respectively. In the men's triple jump event, Farrow finished in second place with 13.54 meters. In his first outdoor meet as a RedHawk, Mac Burley finished in first place in the men's high jump event with 2.00 meters. Vowles also competed in the men's high jump event, and he finished in third place with 1.95 meters.
- In the men's 1500-meter run, Tom Heal finished in first place with a time of 3:57.39. As an unattached runner, Jack Klein also ran in the men's 1500-meter, and he finished in third place with a time of 4:01.44. In the men's 800-meter run, Heal finished in fourth place with a time of 1:57.53. Klein also ran in the 800-meter as an unattached runner, and he finished in ninth place with a time of 1:59.00.
