LAFAYETTE, La. – Tamar Singer's three pointer sent the game to overtime and
Amber Tretter's block as time expired, secured a 60-59 win for the Miami University women's basketball team over Louisiana on Saturday afternoon. Miami improves to 14-8 overall, while the Ragin' Cajuns fall to 10-12. Singer scored a career-high 17 points, while
Enjulina Gonzalez added 11 points and Tretter recorded a game-high 11 rebounds.
How it Happened:
- Louisiana jumped out to 10-2 advantage three minutes into the contest. Miami responded with back-to-back triples from Gonzalez and Maya Chandler to shrink the deficit to just two a minute later and Singer split a pair of defenders for a walk-in layup to knot the game at 12-12. Miami was then held scoreless for the next three minutes as the Ragin' Cajuns opened up an 18-12 lead. Gonzalez's pull-up jumper with 45 seconds left in the quarter ended the drought, 18-14 after 10 minutes of action.
- Miami was held off the scoreboard for the first four minutes of the quarter, before Singer drilled a transition three pointer and trailed 20-17 midway through the second. Louisiana scored the next four points and led 24-17 with 4:18 left in the half. Miami closed the quarter on a 15-2 run. Camille Jackson began the streak with a three-point play and moments later Cori Lard found Singer for a layup. After a free throw for the Ragin' Cajuns, Richason and Lard connected on buckets and Lakresha Edwards sank two triples in the final 33 seconds to spot the Red and White a 32-26 halftime lead.
- Richason opened the second-half scoring with a layup, but Louisiana scored the next nine to claim a 35-34 lead with 6:26 remaining in the third. Richason converted a three-point play to regain the lead for Miami and a Gonzalez step-back jumper spotted the RedHawks a 39-35 lead with less than three minutes to play in the quarter. Louisiana scored the final five points of the third and led 40-39 entering the final stanza.
- After Richason drilled an 18-foot jumper to begin the fourth, Louisiana rattled off nine-straight points. A Singer triple trimmed the deficit, 49-44 at the media timeout. Jackson's three-point play made it 49-47 with four minutes to go and after several Louisiana free throws, the Ragin' Cajuns led 53-49 with 2:26 to go. Tretter scored Miami's next three points to make it 53-52 with just over a minute to play. After a pair of Louisiana free throws, Singer drilled a game-tying triple with 2.1 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.
- In overtime Gonzalez connected on a jumper and moments later she found Chandler for an open three-pointer for a 60-55 lead with two minutes to play. The Ragin' Cajuns scored the next four and had the ball with 15 seconds to play. Louisiana's final shot was blocked by Tretter to secure the one-point win for the RedHawks.
