
Former Miami Pitcher Scott Sauerbeck Passes Away

Former Miami University pitcher, Scott Sauerbeck, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025. He was 53 years old. Sauerbeck was a four-year letterwinner from 1991-94 under Coach Jon Pavlisko.
He was drafted by the Mets in the 23rd round of the 1994 MLB draft and debuted in 1999 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Sauerbeck set a Pirates record in 2002 for appearing in 78 games, the most games pitched by a left-handed pitcher. He played a total of seven years in his MLB career between Pittsburgh, Boston, Cleveland and Oakland and finished with a 20-17 record as a relief pitcher. In 386.1 innings pitched, he recorded a 3.82 ERA, 389 strikeouts and five saves.Â
