OXFORD, Ohio– The Miami University hockey team fell to No. 12/13 Arizona State 4-1 on Saturday night to close out their series.
Spencer Cox beat the final horn for the RedHawks (3-21-2, 0-16-0 NCHC) to score his first goal of the season.
Ethan Dahlmeir stopped 20 shot attempts from the Sun Devils (16-9-1, 11-5-0 NCHC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 6:59 1st (ASU 1-0) | Kyle Smolen got the Sun Devils out to a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal just under seven minutes into the game. Dylan Jackson made the pass to Smolen just in front of the net so Smolen could finish. Lukas Sillinger fed the puck to Jackson to start the passing sequence.
- 14:22 1st (ASU 2-0) | Sam Court doubled the visitors' lead later in the first period after getting a diagonal pass from Bennett Schimek. Ty Jackson initiated the play, carrying the puck into the offensive zone, and also picked up an assist.
- 11:31 2nd (ASU 3-0) | Brasen Boser made it a 3-0 game halfway through the second period. Ethan Szmagaj and Boser traded multiple passes around the ASU offensive zone before Boser lit the lamp.
- 6:36 3rd (ASU 4-0) | Cruz Lucius upped the Sun Devil lead to 4-0 on a feed from Schimek, who skated the puck forward into the zone. Noah Beck and Schimek exchanged passes before Lucius finished the play.
- 19:59 3rd (Miami 4-1) | With just one second remaining on the clock, Cox knocked home a rebound to get the RedHawks on the board. Colby Ambrosio collected an assist on the play after he retrieved the puck from along the boards and fired it toward the net for Cox to track down. Hampus Rydqvist earned the second assist.
NOTES
- Cox's goal was the 10th of his career and his first since Nov. 17, 2023.
- Christophe Fillion played in his 150th career college hockey game.
- Ambrosio produced his team-leading 16th point and his 50th career assist.
