RedHawks Set for Saturday Afternoon Contest With Maine

SATURDAY AFTERNOON: Miami takes on the Maine Black Bears on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 1 p.m. in a home game at Millett Hall. The Red and White enter this game with a 7-0 record, its best start to a season since the 1995-96 season. The RedHawks will wear new special-edition Cradle of Coaches-themed uniforms. The custom-designed Cradle of Coaches-inspired uniforms feature distinct branding elements that pay tribute to the storied heritage of the Cradle of Coaches. Miami ranks among the top of the nation in numerous statistical categories heading into this game, which includes being fourth in the country in effective field goal percentage (62.0%), fifth in field goal percentage (53.1%), fifth in scoring margin (28.1), sixth in scoring offense (95.7), 17th in bench points per game (38.43), 20th in defensive rebounds per game (29.86), 23rd in free throw percentage (78.2%) and 26th in three-point percentage (39.1%).Â
ABOUT MAINE: Maine is currently 0-10, as the Black Bears most recently dropped to the Ohio Bobcats 57-79 on Wednesday night. Maine went 20-14 (10-6 America East) last year. Head coach Chris Markwood is in his fourth season with the Black Bears. Heading into the 2025-26 season, Maine was selected to finish in a tie for second overall in the 2025-26 America East Preseason Men's Basketball Poll. Jude Killy, who is the current Vice President and Director of Athletics for the Black Bears, previously served as the Deputy Director of Athletics and Chief of Staff for the Red and White. Jason Grunkemeyer, who is serving as the current Deputy Director of Athletics for Maine, previously coached (2007-12) and played for Miami (1999-01).
Graduate student forward TJ Biel leads the team in scoring with 12.2 points per game, and former RedHawk Ryan Mabrey, who is a senior guard, has produced the second most points with 8.4 per game. Biel and freshman forward Ace Flagg have recorded the most rebounds this season, as they are both averaging 4.7 per game. Freshman guard Bashir N'Galang has the most assists (2.0/game), and junior guard Logan Carey has the most steals (1.2/game) for the Black Bears.Â

HOME COURT ADVANTAGE: With Miami's most recent home win over IU East (109-65), the Red and White extended its home win streak to 20 games. Kyle Waltz led the RedHawks with 15 points, while five other RedHawks added double figures in scoring. The RedHawks are looking to snap a Miami record of 23 straight home wins (1996-1998). Last season, the Red and White set a new record of 15 consecutive home wins over the course of one season.
