
RedHawks Open MAC Play With Win at Kent State

KENT, Ohio – Three different RedHawks scored in double figures as the Miami University women's basketball team picked up a 67-63 win at Kent State on Wednesday afternoon. Tamar Singer led the way with 16 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for the RedHawks (9-4, 1-0 MAC), while Tatiana Thomas had 18 points for the Golden Flashes (5-8, 0-2 MAC).
Joining Singer in double figures were Ilse de Vries (15 points) and Amber Tretter (14 points). Tretter added seven rebounds and de Vries made three shots from behind the arc.

How it Happened:
- Five different RedHawks scored before the first media timeout as Miami raced out to an early 14-8 advantage. The Golden Flashes responded with four-straight points before Singer's triple made it 17-12 with two minutes left in the quarter. Miami led 19-18 after 10 minutes of play.
- Ashton Elley opened the second quarter scoring with a triple from the corner, but a 6-2 KSU run knotted the contest at 24 apiece. Four-straight points from Singer before the media timeout made it 28-24, but KSU's 9-2 run spotted the Golden Flashes a 33-30 lead with 90 seconds to play in the half. The RedHawks closed the quarter with five free throws and a triple from Núria Jurjo to claim a 38-33 halftime lead.
- Elley's second three-pointer of the game pushed Miami's advantage to 43-36 and after the media timeout de Vries knocked in a triple to spot Miami it's largest lead of the game, 46-36. The Flashes closed the third on an 11-2 run to make it a one-point game heading to the final stanza, 48-47.
- Kent State continued its run, grabbing a 51-48 advantage two minutes into the fourth quarter. Miami responded with three-straight points from Tretter to tie the game. Moments later Tretter found deVries for a wide-open triple for a 54-51 Miami lead. After Kent State answered with five-straight points, de Vries knocked in her third triple of the game to regain the lead for the Red and White and the RedHawks pushed their lead to five, 61-56 late into the fourth. With the shot clock expiring, Kent State's three-point prayer was answered to make it 61-59 with just over a minute to play. Singer made sure the lead would stand, knocking down six-straight free throws to close out the game.
Game Notes:
- The RedHawks were 22-of-26 from the foul line, a season-high for makes and attempts.
- Miami had 14 offensive rebounds (two shy of a season-high) that resulted in 22 second-chance points.
- Kent State finished the contest with 24 turnovers, the eighth opponent this season to commit at least 20 turnovers versus the RedHawks.
