RedHawks Host Toledo in Saturday Showdown

ON TAP: The Miami University women's basketball team opens the new year by hosting the Toledo Rockets on Saturday, Jan. 3. Opening tip is slated for 1 p.m.
DOUBLE TROUBLE: Amber Tretter has 24 double-doubles in her career and is a near walking double-double in points (13.5) and rebounds (8.8) this season. She is also on pace to become just the second RedHawk in program history to record 1,000 career rebounds and has scored 823 career points, which ranks 43rd in program history. She has already been named MAC Player of the Week once and has twice earned MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week.
BALANCED SCORING: Miami has four players averaging double-digits in scoring, led by Amber Scalia (13.6 ppg.) She is joined by Amber Tretter (13.5 ppg.), Tamar Singer (11.7 ppg.) and Ilse de Vries (11.5 ppg.).
BY THE MARGINS: Miami is currently fifth in the MAC in scoring (72.2) and second in defense (59.9), which results in a 12.2 point margin of victory, third-best in the conference. The RedHawks also lead the MAC in field goal percentage (.445) and three-pointers made (106) and are second in turnover margin (5.1).
KENT STATE RECAP: Three different RedHawks scored in double figures as Miami picked up a 67-63 win at Kent State on Wednesday afternoon. Tamar Singer led the way with 16 points, nine rebounds and eight assists for the RedHawks, who opened the year 1-0 in conference play. Joining Singer in double figures were Ilse de Vries (15 points) and Amber Tretter (14 points). Tretter added seven rebounds and de Vries made a career-high three shots from behind the arc.
ABOUT TOLEDO: Toledo is 6-5 overall and 1-0 in MAC play and enter Millett Hall on a three-game win streak. Kendall Carruthers leads the team in scoring (13.8 ppg.), while Faith Fedd-Robinson is tops on the team in rebounding (5.9 rpg.).
SERIES HISTORY: Saturday will be the 77th meeting between these two programs, with Toledo holding an all-time series record of 45-31. The Rockets have won the past seven contest and Miami has not downed Toledo since Feb. 17, 2021 inside Savage Arena.
LONG RANGE BOMBERS: Despite shooting just 12-of-49 (24.5%) from long range over the past two contests, Miami ranks 48th nationally at 8.2 three-pointers per game. The RedHawks have made double-digit three-pointers in five of 13 games this season, including 13 at Purdue, 12 against Marist, Coastal Carolina and WKU and 10 against Bellarmine. Seven different RedHawks are shooting at least 33.3% from distance and four RedHawks have already made 10+ three pointers this season (Macie Taylor and Núria Jurjo have nine apiece).
SAY YES TO NON-CONFERENCE WINS: As the RedHawks open MAC play, Miami has already had one of its most successful non-conference seasons. The last time Miami won eight non-conference games before Jan. 1 was all the way back in 2018-19 when Miami captured nine wins before the calendar change.
SLOW STARTS: Miami has been out-scored 205-199 in the first quarter this season, but have rebounded quickly, posting a 233-175 second quarter advantage. Miami has also out-scored their opponents in the third (246-206), and the fourth (242-179) quarters.
20+ LEAGUE: Four different RedHawks have already scored 20-plus points this season and the RedHawks are 5-1 on the year when someone puts up a 20-point effort. Amber Tretter and Tamar Singer have done it twice and Amber Scalia and Ilse de Vries have also posted 20-plus points.
NEW, BUT NOT YOUNG: Despite eight new players on the roster, the RedHawks feature an experienced squad. Overall, the 12 players have combined to play in 608 games and make 306 starts. They have also combined to score in double figures 162 times.Â
SINGING HER PRAISES: Tamar Singer, one of the best freshman in the MAC a year ago, has taken her game to another level in 2025-26. Last season she averaged 6.3 points and 4.2 assists per game while running the point. This year she is averaging 11.7 points and 7.0 assists, which ranks 11th nationally. She has surpassed 20 points twice this season (none last year) and has led the team in scoring five times in 2025-26 (once all of last year).
PASSING RECORDS: Tamar Singer is threatening nearly every passing record in program history. The school recorded for assists in a game is 13 (Courtney Osborn and D'Nelle Seiple) ... Singer has twice posted 12 assists (IU-Southeast and WKU). Versus the Lady Toppers she has six assists before the first media time out (which has to be a school record). The school record for assists in a season is 175 (Jenna Schone) ... With no postseason play, Singer is on pace for 223 assists this season. The career record for assists is 596 (Heather Cusick)...Singer is on pace for 349 assists through her first two years of play.Â
DE VRIES PLAYS OVERSEAS: This summer, sophomore Ilse de Vries represented the Netherlands as a member of the U20 National Team at the annual FIBA U20 EuroBasket League. In seven games, she averaged 11.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest. This season de Vries is averaging career bests in points, rebounds and assists. She has already posted eight double-digit scoring contests after just three in 2024-25.
105 AND COUNTING: Amber Scalia will be competing in her 105th career game on Saturday. Prior to joining the RedHawks, Scalia played in 91 games over three years at St. Thomas, where she scored 1,091 points and shot 34% from long distance. She has scored 1,275 points in 102 career games.
