11/7/2025 8:31:00 AM | Football
Coming off a 24-20 loss to Ohio last Tuesday, the Miami University football team looks to get back to its winning ways as the RedHawks host Toledo Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. The contest will be carried live on ESPN2.
About Miami
• Miami football ranks first all-time in the Mid-American Conference in wins (738), conference wins (327), MAC Championships (17) and bowl wins (9).  Historically, Miami's 738 career wins are third all-time among Group-of-Five programs, behind just Navy (753) and Army (742).
• Miami was 4-14 in Coach Martin's first 18 Mid-American Conference games. Since then, the RedHawks are 53-20 in their last 73 games versus schools from the MAC, the best in the conference during that span.
• Prior to Ohio, the RedHawks had won 11-straight MAC regular season contest, dating back to Oct. 12, 2024. Miami is 20-3 over their last 23 MAC games.
• Miami has competed in five straight bowl games and has been bowl-eligible in eight of the past nine seasons. The RedHawks are coming off a 43-17 win over Colorado State in the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl last season.
• Since Oct. 15, 2016, Miami has lost back-to-back conference games just twice in that span (2017, 2022). Miami is 16-3 following a conference loss, dating back to midway through the 2016 campaign.
About Chuck Martin
• Chuck Martin was named Miami head coach on Dec. 3, 2013.
• He was named a 2023 Finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award after an 11-3 season.
• Not only was he 74-7 in six years at Grand Valley State (2004-09), he has coached in seven national championship games in the past 22 seasons. Â
• Martin has an all-time head coaching record of 144-78.
• He is 70-71 all-time at Miami (55-34 in MAC play) and has won more games at Miami than any other coach. The previous high was held by Randy Walker (60 wins).
• Martin is the longest tenured active coach in the MAC.
• He has twice been named the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) National Coach of the Year and has been a coordinator on both sides of the ball.
• Martin was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Grand Valley State University on Oct. 23, 2015.
About Toledo
Toledo is 5-4 on the season and 3-2 in MAC play. Offensively, the Rockets average 32.9 points and 437.2 yards per game and are led by quarterback Tucker Gleason, who has thrown for 2,030 yards and 15 touchdowns this year. The Rockets' defense ranks ninth nationally, allowing 14.6 points per contest.
Series History Versus The Rockets
The RedHawks lead the all-time series 29-24-1 over Toledo, but have not beaten Toledo at home since Oct. 31, 2009. To be fair, these two teams did not face each other for 4,382 days (no contests from 2011 to 2023) and have only competed inside Yager Stadium once since 2010. Despite that long layoff, Wednesday's contest will be the fourth between these two teams since Oct. 21, 2023.
Last Meeting With The Rockets
Miami fell 30-20 last season in the MAC opener versus Toledo back on Oct. 5, 2024. Brett Gabbert threw for 296 yards and Corban Hondru had 11 tackles and two interceptions in the loss. Miami fell to 1-4 overall after the Toledo loss, but rattled off seven-straight wins to compete in its second-straight MAC title game.
RedHawks To Wear Special Uniforms Versus Rockets
The custom-designed Cradle of Coaches-inspired uniforms versus the Rockets features distinct branding elements that pay tribute to the storied heritage of Miami Football as well as the Cradle of Coaches.
The new Miami University Cradle of Coaches uniforms take cues from uniforms of the past. The arched Miami on the football helmet is taken from past Miami athletics uniforms, utilizing the retro slab serif text. The gold accents across the uniform pay homage to the gold standard of coaching exemplified by Miami coaches, past, present, and future across all sports, while the color black is used to symbolize the tradition, strength, history and prestige of Miami's Cradle of Coaches. The Baltimore Ravens gold face mask color is a first for Miami Football. (LEARN MORE)

Lights, 'Kam'era, Action
Kam Perry currently averages 26.3 yards per reception, which ranks first in the country. After posting just 10 catches for 166 yards last season, the junior has already recorded three 100-yard games this season. He had 108 yards at Rutgers, 122 versus UNLV and 122 against Lindenwood. He also posted four grabs for 98 yards versus Western Michigan.
Magic Trick

He posted 2.0 sacks at Wisconsin and recorded sacks in three-straight games versus Lindenwood (1.0), NIU (1.0) and Akron (1.5). Trick is one of 11 RedHawks to post a sack this season. Combined, Miami has recorded 26 sacks, which ranks 13th in the country.

Been Here Before
The 0-3 start for the RedHawks was nothing new. Mostly due to an extremely tough non-conference schedule, Miami has started nine of the past 11 seasons (not including 2020 when Miami only played three games) with a 1-3 record (or worse). Below is a break down of starts and finishes for Miami football over recent years.

• He has added 2,302 rushing yards and 31 scores on the ground.Â
• Most of that damage came during his time at Toledo. In 45 career games with the Rockets, Finn threw for 7,074 yards and 63 scores, while adding 1,840 yards and 25 touchdowns on the ground.Â
• He earned first-team All-MAC and was the MAC Player of the Year in 2023 and is the only player in Toledo football history to throw for over 2,000 yards and rush for 500 yards in multiple seasons (2021, 2022, 2023).
• Finn's 106 career total touchdowns (75 passing, 31 rushing) ranks second among active players in the NCAA and 73rd in NCAA history.
New-Look Offensive LineÂ
Miami's OL lost one player to the transfer portal, while four others graduated following the 2024 season. In all, those five players started a combined 166 career games for the RedHawks. Miami's 2025 offensive line has a much different feel. Eric Smith, Kris Manu, Austin Uke and Greg Smith Jr. all made their first collegiate start in the season opener at Wisconsin, while Drew Terrill started his second career game. In all, Miami's offensive line has started a combined 46 games.
From Walk-on to Team Leader
Silas Walters came to Miami back in 2021 as a walk-on. Prior to the 2023 season, Walters earned a scholarship, and in 2024 he finished second on the team with 95 tackles and 12 pass breakups. He also represented Miami's defense at the 2025 MAC Football Media Day in Detroit.
Sean McVay Joins Cradle of Coaches
Miami added a 10th bronze statue to its Cradle of Coaches in Sean McVay back in 2023. McVay, the current head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, joined Ara Parseghian, Paul Brown, Weeb Ewbank, John Harbaugh, John Pont, Carm Cozza, Bo Schembechler, Red Blaik, and Paul Dietzel in the south end of Yager Stadium.
Graduating Champions
Before Miami even takes the field in 2024, 15 different RedHawks will have already earned their Miami degree: Eli Blakey, Jordan Brunson, Deion Colzie, Dom Dzioban, Dequan Finn, Henry Hesson, Corban Hondru, Oscar McWood, Brian Shane, Kenny Tracy, Austin Uke, Marcus White, Nasir Washington, Darion Williamson and Kam Wilson.
