RedHawks Fall to Rockets

OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami University football team fell to visiting Toledo 24-3 Wednesday night in Mid-American Conference play. The RedHawks move to 5-5 (4-2 MAC), while the visitors improve to 6-4 (4-2 MAC), with both teams now tied for second place in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team scored in the first quarter, with the Miami defense taking advantage of interceptions by Eli Coppess and Eli Blakey to keep the visitors off the board. Toledo finally broke through with six minutes remaining in the half, finishing a 46-yard drive with a three-yard scoring run by Chip Trayanum to take a 7-0 lead.
- The Rockets doubled their lead with 13 seconds remaining in the second quarter, capitalizing on a 54-yard punt return and Miami penalty that moved the ball to the six-yard line. Tucker Gleason threw a touchdown pass to Jacob Petersen on the next play to make it 14-0 at the break.
- Toledo scored on its first possession of the third quarter, taking a 21-0 lead on a 24-yard pass from Gleason to Ryder Treadway, and added a field goal after a takeaway to go up 24-0. The RedHawks responded with a 14-play, 61-yard scoring drive to get on the board with a 26-yard field goal from Dom Dzioban. D'Shawntae Jones converted two 4th-and-1 plays to help Miami move into scoring position.
- The RedHawks advanced inside the Toledo 35 on two different drives in the fourth quarter but were unable to reach the end zone.
NOTES
- Miami forced a season-high three turnovers, including Blakey's first-quarter pick and fourth-quarter fumble recovery.
- Coppess recorded an interception for the second consecutive week.
- Malcolm McCain set a new career high with eight tackles (including two tackles for loss) and added the first forced fumble of his career.
- Dzioban made his 11th-straight field goal (dating back to Oct. 4) and improved to 15-for-17 this season (88.2%).
- Kam Perry led Miami offensively with 69 receiving yards.

The RedHawks travel to Buffalo next Wednesday, Nov. 19 for another midweek MACtion game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y.
