RedHawks Fall Short at Purdue, 79-68

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Despite a career-best 21 points from Tamar Singer, the Miami University women's basketball team, dropped a 79-68 decision to Purdue University on Sunday afternoon. Amber Tretter added 18 points and Núria Jurjo chipped in 10 for the RedHawks (4-2). Madison Layden-Zay posted 21 points for Purdue (3-2).

How it Happened:
- A three-point jumper from Ilse de Vries gave Miami an early 12-7 lead, forcing a Purdue timeout. The Boilermakers answered with nine-straight points and led 18-15 after 10 minutes of play.
- Purdue pushed its advantage to 22-15 before Singer found Amber Scalia for a three-pointer on the fast break two minutes into the second quarter. Back-to-back triples from Purdue forced a Glenn Box timeout as the RedHawks trailed 28-18 with 6:45 left in the half. Purdue maintained its 10-point advantage with four minutes to play before Singer scored five-straight points to make it 35-30 with 90 seconds to play. The Boilermakers closed the half on a 5-0 run and led 40-30.
- Jurjo and Macie Taylor knocked in triples to begin the second half to close the gap to within eight, but Purdue responded quickly with a long-range three pointer to reclaim an 11-point lead midway through the third. With Purdue holding a 49-39 lead, Singer connected on a triple and then split a pair of defenders for a layup. Following the media timeout Tretter's two free throws made it a one-possession game, 49-46. Purdue led 57-50 entering the final stanza.
- After Purdue opened the fourth with a bucket, Tretter drilled a three pointer, but the Boilermakers once again pushed their advantage to double digits two minutes in the quarter. Scalia converted on a tough bucket inside the paint and Tretter made her fourth three-pointer of the game made it 63-58 with 6:16 to play. Purdue closed the quarter on a 16-10 run to put the game away.
