OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University volleyball team (6-6, 0-1 MAC) opened conference play by falling in three sets (25-8, 25-14, 25-19) to Central Michigan (10-3, 1-0 MAC) Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Central Michigan began the first set with a 3-0 advantage before a pair of attack errors and a kill from Ana Vetter tied the score at 3-3. Gentry Warrick derailed the Chippewas attempt to pull ahead, putting down back-to-back kills to keep the score tied at 7-7. Central Michigan went on to find their rhythm, sealing the set at 25-8.
- The Chippewas continued their hot start into the second set, commanding a 6-1 lead. The RedHawks trailed 8-4 after Vetter and Hayden Hicks each recorded a kill. Lydia Michelin and Warrick joined the offensive push, each recording numerous kills to remain in striking distance at 17-11. The RedHawks did not come any closer, dropping to the Chippewas 25-14 in the second set.
- The RedHawks used a 6-2 run in the third set to close within one at 9-8 in the third set. A service ace from Ellie Hanson and a collection of kills sparked the RedHawk offense. The Chippewas pulled ahead 15-9 halfway through the set, forcing a Miami timeout. The Red and White did not give in, scoring the next three points to put the score at 15-12. Despite the strong effort, the Chippewas closed the third set with a 25-19 win.
NOTES:
- Warrick recorded the highest hitting percentage of the match (.833).
- Anna McClure led all players with 14 digs.
