VALPARAISO, Ind. — The Miami University volleyball team (5-3) defeated Purdue Fort Wayne (4-4) in three sets (27-25, 25-20, 25-22) on Friday evening in the Popcorn Classic.
Raegan Lantz led all RedHawks with 12 kills, while
Amyah Cooper brought the defense for the Red and White, totaling five blocks to lead all players.
Sophie Crawford totaled a game-high 30 assists while also adding 13 digs and two service aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The RedHawks began the first set ahead 8-4 after Ellie Hanson served an ace and Ava Francis put down a trio of kills. The RedHawks looked to close out the set thanks to a pair of kills from Lantz that made it 20-16. The Mastodons tied it up at 21-21 before jumping ahead 24-22. The Red and White remained determined, outscoring Purdue Fort Wayne 5-1 to secure a 27-25 first set victory.
- The RedHawks went on a 4-0 run to jump ahead 8-4 in the second set. A block assist from Cooper and Vetter sparked the offense. Lantz added three consecutive kills to help Miami extend their lead. The Mastodons answered by coming within one at 8-7, but Miami immediately followed this up with four straight points. Purdue Fort Wayne once again made it a one-point game at 16-15. Miami ultimately closed out the set with a 25-20 victory.
- Crawford hit two service aces to help give Miami a 4-0 lead in the third set. The Mastodons looked to stay close at 8-5, but the RedHawks increased their advantage to 13-5. A collection of kills from Cooper and Lantz fended off the Mastodons at 19-13. Chelsea Williams joined the offensive barrage, adding three late kills to hand the RedHawks a 25-22 win.

- Cooper and Crawford each made their first career start.
