OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University head softball coach Mandy Gardner-Colegate has announced that Alivia Forshey (Associate Head Coach) and Emerald Doria (Assistant Coach) will join her staff for the upcoming season.
"I am thrilled to hire a staff of amazing coaches and even better people," said Gardner-Colegate. "Their ability to recruit and connect with players is unmatched. They both have tremendous player development plans for their respective roles and I cannot wait to see the growth they instill in our RedHawk players!"
Forshey spent the past two seasons with the Missouri softball team. She began her time with the Tigers as a volunteer assistant coach in 2022, working primarily with the hitters and outfielders. Forshey was elevated to Director of Player Development / Director of Camps in July, 2023.
This past season, Forshey and the Tigers went 48-18 overall, advancing to the SEC title game. Missouri went on to host a Regional and Super Regional this past season and were ranked as high as No. 7 in the country. Forshey was instrumental is helping produce five All-SEC performers during the 2024 campaign as well.
"I am thrilled to join Miami and become a part of the RedHawk community," said Forshey. "I am excited to work with such a talented team and dedicated staff to continue the success of our softball program. I look forward to helping build leaders both on and off the field, and contributing to the tradition of excellence here at Miami."
Forshey served as an assistant coach at Toledo during the 2022 season after spending time as an assistant coach at Sioux Falls and a graduate assistant at North Dakota State. During the summer of 2021, Forshey was an assistant coach with the Beverly Bandits travel organization.
"Coach Forshey has a passion for the game, for life, and for people," said Gardner-Colegate. "Her commitment to continue to learn and grow, mixed with her untiring work ethic, is something that immediately stood out to me. She brings an incredible resume and extensive experience after working with many great coaches and players over her career. Coach Forshey's competitiveness, as well as her strong background in analytics and statistical breakdown, will have a profound outcome on our achievement and growth as an offense. I cannot wait to see what she brings to our student-athletes."
She played collegiately at Bowling Green from 2015-18, and was recognized three times as an NFCA Scholar Athlete during her career.
Doria spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach with Maryland softball.
Maryland had a record setting season in Doria's second season on staff. The Terps posted a 38-19 record, their best since 2011. Doria led the Maryland defense to a program-best .977 fielding percentage, which led the Big Ten. She also played a crucial role in the Terp's offense which produced 36 home runs, the most since 2013.
"I am grateful to Mandy for giving me the opportunity to join the Miami University family," said Doria. "My own family and I are excited to get plugged into the great atmosphere and culture at Miami, as well as in the city of Oxford. I am looking forward to working with the staff and meeting the talented players, and am thrilled to continue the success that has already been established. Let's get to work, RedHawks!"
Prior to Maryland, Doria spent two seasons as the head coach at Southwestern University, compiling a 28-24 record, helping the team to a top-5 finish in the conference standings both seasons.
As Associate Head Coach from 2014-19, Doria was instrumental in helping Louisiana Tech record five straight 30-plus win seasons, a feat that hadn't been accomplished by the program since the 1990s.
Included in that success was LA Tech's 2019 Conference USA regular season title – first in program history – and its 2017 and 2019 C-USA Tournament titles as well as a pair of NCAA Regional appearances in her last three years with the team.
She helped the Lady Techsters win 45 games, the second most in program history, while claiming both the regular season and tournament championships in 2019. Tech broke numerous team and individual single season offensive marks along the way. She was part of the 2019 staff that was named the NFCA Mideast Region co-Coaching Staff of the Year.
"Coach Doria is such an accomplished coach," said Gardner-Colegate. "She specializes in running defensive systems and strategies, and I can't wait for her to head our defense. Having previously been a head coach and an assistant at the highest level, she has a wealth of knowledge and experience to bring to Miami Softball. Her excitement around finding the next generation of Miami softball players and her ability to develop will help our program to continue to grow for years to come."
Doria, who handled the Lady Techster infielders and served as the primary hitting coach, also oversaw video editing aspects of the program while also being heavily involved in recruiting.
Doria was a four-year letter-winner at Centenary College, where she played shortstop from 2006-09. She completed health and science degree in 2010.
