OXFORD, Ohio— The RedHawks fell to East Tennessee 9-3 Thursday evening. The RedHawks drop to 25-24 with the loss, while the Buccaneers rise to 33-17 with the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- East Tennessee State began the game by singling through the left side to put a runner on first. Later on, the bases were loaded after two batters were walked. The Buccaneers closed the top of the first inning with a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the first inning, Ty Batusich doubled down the left field. Evan Appelwick followed this up by singling down left field to bring Batusich home and make it a 1-1 game.
- Cody Miller opened the top of the third inning by hitting a double for the Buccaneers. Later on, Noah Webb recorded a sac fly for East Tennessee to make it 2-1.
- Numerous hits in the fifth inning from the Buccaneers led to Blake Jacklin crossing home plate and bringing the score to 4-1. Jamie Palmese went on to hit a grand slam to stretch East Tennessee's lead to 8-1.
- David Novak began the bottom of the seventh inning by doubling to left center. Novak then advanced to third after a wild pitch. The RedHawks closed the inning by striking out and grounding out.
- In the bottom of the eighth inning, Zach MacDonald hit a single to left field. MacDonald went on to advance to second base thanks to a wild pitch. Batusich reached first base after an error by East Tennessee. Appelwick reached first on a fielder's choice and brought MacDonald home to trail 8-2. Appelwick eventually got to second thanks to yet another wild pitch. Tre Keels was walked, and Appelwick made his way to third base after a passed ball was thrown by the Buccaneers. Ryland Zaborowski fouled out to right field, bringing home Appelwick to bring the score to 8-3.
- East Tennessee brought in one more run in the top of the ninth to increase its advantage to 9-3. The RedHawks would get no closer, falling to the Buccaneers by six runs.
MIAMI GAME NOTES
- Appelwick went 1-for-4 with one run and two RBI.
- Batusich went 2-for-4 with one run.
- Novak went 2-for-4.
