HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Burke started on the mound for the RedHawks and Ciaran Caughey for Kent State. Each pitcher held all batters hitless for the first four innings, with Burke holding the Flashes without a single baserunner through four frames.
- The first hit of the game was a solo home run by Kent State in the top of the fifth, putting the RedHawks into a 1-0 deficit. Miami came up with its first hit in the bottom of the inning, a single by Diego Cruz, but a double play squandered the attempt.
- The sixth was a one-two-three inning for both Burke and Caughey.
- Kent State opened the seventh with a double and the runner advanced on a groundout before getting caught in a pickle on a fielder's choice. Two straight HBPs loaded the bases with two outs, but Appelwick tossed a ground ball to Burke to record the third out and escape the jam.
- The Flashes scored again in the eighth after a single, HBP and RBI single. In the bottom of the eighth, Dominic Krupinski turned a base hit to the wall into a triple. He scored as Marcus Dierks grounded out. Evan Appelwick and Tommy Harrison then came aboard via a single and HBP respectively, but an untimely double play kept Miami at a 2-1 deficit heading into the ninth.
- The Flashes put two runners in scoring position in the ninth after an HBP, walk and single. They built their lead back to two runs, 3-1, with a sacrifice fly.
- Three straight outs ended Miami's MAC Tournament run in the bottom of the ninth.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Krupinski went 1-for-2 with a run.
- Burke went 7.1 innings, holding the Flashes to just five hits and two runs while striking out six batters.
- The RedHawks finish conference tournament play ranked in the top five nationally in on-base percentage and scoring and top 20 nationally in batting average and slugging percentage.
