OXFORD, Ohio— The RedHawks took down Ohio in game one of the Battle of the Bricks Friday 4-3 after seven innings of stellar defense from RHP
Lukas Galdoni and a walk-off double from first baseman
Evan Appelwick. The RedHawks move to 25-21 (17-11 MAC) with the win, while the Bobcats fall to 14-30 (9-16 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Galdoni and the defense faced three batters and recorded three outs in the top of the first with a lineout, groundout and flyout.
- Dillon Baker led off for Miami with a walk in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Ryland Zaborowski walked and Appelwick turned two on a hit down the left field line, scoring Baker for a 1-0 lead.
- Galdoni recorded a 1-2-3 inning again in the top of the second, sending three Bobcats down with a foul out and two flyouts.
- With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Tyler Gordon singled up the middle. Baker hit a soft fly ball into centerfield to put runners at the corners for Miami. Zach MacDonald reached on an error, and Gordon came in to score and take a 2-0 lead.
- Ohio hit their stride in the fifth inning, beginning with a single from AJ Rausch. Trey Cassidy then singled to left field to advance Rausch to third, and a single by Nick Dolan handed the Bobcats their first run of the game.
- A walk by JR Nelson loaded the bases. Alex Finney then came up with a sacrifice fly, tying the game at two runs each.
- Galdoni recorded two flyouts and a strikeout to render the Bobcats hitless in the sixth.
- Zarlingo walked and advanced on a groundout in the bottom of the sixth. Baker singled, and Zarlingo scored on the next at bat, forcing a pitching change for the Bobcats and giving the RedHawks a 3-2 lead.
- Galdoni struck out two on his way to recording three straight outs yet again during his seventh complete inning on the mound.
- Nelson singled in the top of the eighth and advanced on a groundout. Two intentional walks loaded the bases, and an HBP tied the game at 3-3.
- Peyton Olejnik recorded a huge swinging strikeout to end the top of the ninth and keep the score tied headed to the bottom.
- MacDonald led off with a double to the centerfield wall in the bottom of the ninth. Ohio then intentionally walked Batusich. Appelwick hit a walk-off double into centerfield, sending the dugout running onto the field in celebration.
MIAMI GAME NOTES
- Baker went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run.
- Appelwick went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
- Gordon went 2-for-3 one run.
- Galdoni faced 30 batters in 7.1 innings, giving up six hits and three runs and recording four strikeouts.
- Olejnik faced seven batters in 1.1 innings, giving up no hits and no runs and recording two strikeouts.

Game two is slated for 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. Miami will look to clinch the series victory as they continue their battle for the second seed in the MAC tournament.
