RedHawks Crush Cards in 11-1 Contest

OXFORD, Ohio— The RedHawks defeated Ball State 11-1 Sunday after five RedHawks posted multi-hit games. Miami moves to 13-16 (8-7 MAC) with the victory while Ball State falls to 20-13 (7-8 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Miami caught Ball State stealing in the first to notch out number three and render a scoreless inning for the Cardinals.
  • Dillon Baker led off the game for Miami with a walk. Ryland Zaborowski followed with a double to right center to give Miami two runners in scoring position. Ty Batusich took an HBP on an empty count to load the bases with zero outs.
  • Zach MacDonald hit an RBI sac fly to center field on a six pitch at bat that brought one across for the RedHawks and left runners at the corners.
  • Still with one out, Ryan Novak walked after six pitches to reload the bases. First baseman Evan Appelwick hit a ground ball down the left field line to score two more runners, extend Miami's lead to 3-0 and cut starting pitcher Will Jacobson's outing short.
  • David Novak pushed the lead to four with an RBI sac fly that scored Ryan Novak.
  • Tyler Gordon led off the bottom of the second with a bunt single and Zaborowksi scored him with a double to the left field corner. Zaborowski then scored as Batusich singled up the middle to extend the lead to 6-0.
  • David Novak singled in the third and advanced on a fielder's choice. Gordon then singled to center field to send Novak home and extend Miami's lead to seven.
  • The Cardinals put themselves on the board in the top of the fourth with one run to make it 7-1.
  • Ryan Novak and Appelwick started the fifth with a pair of walks for the RedHawks. Blake Buzzeo reached on a fielder's choice and Novak scored on a throwing error.
  • Ryan Novak singled to lead off for Miami in the seventh. He then advanced to third when David Novak hit a double down the left field line. Gordon then beat a close tag at first to record an RBI single and give Miami a 9-1 lead.
  • Batusich singled and advanced to second on an error in the eighth. MacDonald then singled to put runners at the corners and Ryan Novak punched in Miami's tenth run of the day with an RBI single to left field.
  • Appelwick walked to load the bases with RedHawks. David Novak hit a sac fly and Batusich slid into home to beat the tag. This put Miami up 10 to impose the Sunday mercy rule and secure the RedHawks an 11-1 win.
