TOLEDO, Ohio— Miami shut out the Rockets Friday in a 13-0 victory after centerfielder
Zach MacDonald and first baseman
Evan Appelwick each crushed two home runs. Miami moves to 16-19 (9-10 MAC) with the victory while Toledo falls to 19-19 (12-7 MAC) with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ryland Zaborowski and MacDonald both walked to start the fourth inning for Miami. Appelwick then stepped up to the plate and blasted a three-run homer on an empty count to put Miami up 3-0.
- Tyler Gordon led off the fifth inning with a single to left field. He advanced to third when Ty Batusich copied with a single to left. Gordon then scored on a sacrifice fly by Zaborowski.
- Batusich stole second base and advanced to third on an error. MacDonald then hit his first round-tripper of the day to extend Miami's lead over Toledo to six.
- Batusich singled again in the sixth, and MacDonald hit another two-run home run to make it an 8-0 game after seven innings.
- In the eighth, Appelwick reached first on a fielding error and scored when David Novak doubled down the left field foul line. Novak then came home on a single by Gordon. Dillon Baker walked to advance Gordon, and both advanced on a wild pitch. A sac fly by Batusich scored Gordon, and then Baker came across when Ryland Zaborowski doubled to center field. This scoring outburst made it a 12-0 RedHawk lead with one inning to play.
- Appelwick hit another home run, this time to right field, to put the nail in the coffin and round out a 13-run game for the RedHawks.
