ATHENS, Ga. – On Saturday evening, the Miami University softball team fell 6-4 at No. 6 University of Georgia. The matchup was tight throughout the game, with the Bulldogs just edging out the RedHawks in the sixth inning. Georgia moves to 18-3 on the season. The RedHawks then went on to shut out Furman University 5-0. Furman drops to 10-11 on the season. The Red and White move to 14-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- In the top of the first, Holly Blaska hit a two-RBI double, scoring Karli Spaid and Allie Cummins, to grab a 2-0 lead for the RedHawks.
- A three-run homer from the Bulldogs in the bottom of the first gave them the 3-2 lead.
- In the top of the fifth, Spaid hit an RBI single that allowed Cummins to cross the plate and tie the game at 3-3.
- Still in that inning, a fielder's choice drawn by Kate Kobayashi allowed Jenna Golembiewski to score and gave Miami a 4-3 lead.
- Georgia tied it up in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double. They then took the lead 6-4 on a sac fly and a RBI single.
- The Bulldogs held their lead over the RedHawks through the seventh inning to take the game 6-4.
NOTES:
- Golembiewski went 2-for-3 at the plate and had a double.
- Blaska and Chloe Parks each had doubles.
- Five different RedHawks had hits.
- Cummins secured two of the four walks allowed by Georgia pitching.
- Addy Jarvis went 4.1 innings on the rubber, striking out three.
- Ashley Hitchcock and Madilyn Reeves also saw time in the circle.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- In the top of the third inning, Cummins homered over right field, also scoring Hadley Parisien to give the RedHawks a 2-0 lead.
- Later in that same inning, Kobayashi hit an RBI single that scored Spaid to push the lead to 3-0.
- In the top of the seventh an error allowed Spaid and Golembiewski to score, making it a 5-0 game.
- The RedHawks held off the Paladins through the end of the game to get the 5-0 shutout win.
NOTES:
- Golembiewski went 3-for-4 at the plate and had a double.
- Parisien went 1-for-2 offensively.
- Cummins had two RBI and a home run.
- Reeves went the full seven innings in the circle, striking out three and only allowing three hits.
