ATHENS, Ga. – The Miami University softball team routed Furman University 8-0 in five innings on Sunday morning. A quick attack in the first inning of play helped the RedHawks to the victory. Miami moves to 15-6 on the season while Furman drops to 10-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the bottom of the first, an RBI single from Holly Blaska scored Allie Cummins and put the RedHawks on the board at 1-0.
- Still in that inning, Kate Kobayashi walked with the bases loaded and Jenna Golembiewski crossed the plate to double the lead. Chloe Parks followed that up with a 2-RBI single that scored Blaska and Karli Spaid to push the lead to 4-0.
- Sami Bewick hit a sac ground out, still in the first inning, that allowed Kobayashi to score. Mckenna Campbell then hit an RBI double that scored Parks and stretched the deficit to 6-0.
- In the bottom of the fifth, a two-run homer from Golembiewski where Kari Krueger also crossed the plate, made it an 8-0 game, which the RedHawks held through the conclusion of the five-inning game.
NOTES:
- Golembiewski went 3-for-4 at the plate. Spaid went 2-for-2.
- Parks and Golembiewski each knocked in two RBI.
- Seven different RedHawks had hits.
- Ashley Hitchcock went the full five innings in the circle, allowing only two hits, and striking out four.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks will be home in Oxford, Ohio, on Friday, March 15 at 5 p.m. to open their Mid-American Conference season against Western Michigan University.
